Yes, but what exactly are you typing into xkas, or whatever you're using.  Without more information about what you're doing, it's impossible to help you.  If you're sure you're doing it right, like 'xkas boost.asm metroid3.smc', then we can at least look at something else.  Also, did you rename your ROM to SM.smc, as stated in the readme?

It's looking good dude, you seem to be getting the hang of varied terrain a bit more. I really like the purple and red palette. While you have been working on the varied terrain I notice you still have that same slope (not a problem, just a suggestion) so I took the liberty of posting a picture of a room of mine that I recently touched up:


As you can see in the picture I like don't have flat walls/ceilings etc... Also, if you wish to make the room more eye candy-ish, I suggest adding some new details, such as pipes, moss, anything you can think of that looks good. Keep it up dude!

Also, another little tip that I have found myself doing to make my hack a lot more visually pleasing: After you complete a few rooms/areas, go back and touch up the rooms with extra details or little tweaks. I have done this about 3-4 times to my Crateria rooms, and they seem to get much better every time.

The room looks pretty good, but one suggestion I'd make regarding the details - in this case pipes: While realism is never really the aim, try to remember that things like pipes would always serve a purpose, usually to transport some liquid from A to B.  In your room, above the central door in the floor, you have a wiggly pipe, which would just never be built, as it'd be straight, or at least bending downward (for gravity to transfer said liquid).  Pipes branching off and whatnot make sense, but a pipe that wiggles for the sake of wiggling? Razz

EDIT: Another thing you should consider is using the tiles in certain ways to create fake 'layers'.  In the room below you'll see that the left-hand half has tiles used like yours - edging all the way round the room, using standard straights and ramps, but in the right-hand half, I've used certain tiles in a way that creates a fake layering effect.  Give it a whirl, and you'll soon get used to it.  It's not perfect, as some tiles have the black edging, but this was quickly banged together to give the example.  A few tile edits, and you'd be set.

I've never designed a room before, but as a player I can honestly say that I have never even come close to thinking about things like that.  Just my two cents.

I was not saying that you should do anything - it was just a suggestion. aiwebs_004  The number of pipes doesn't matter, but I was saying that a pipe like that, which twists for no apparently built purpose looks inconsistent.  It's a very minor detail, but can help with the authenticity of an area.

Heh, I'm happy I read this. My main worry for my hack is the detail and stuff when it's finished. I wouldn't have really thought about this if someone didn't bring it up. It really seems like it opens new paths :). atta boy quietus

Heh, My hack is going to be random as you get into it. It's going to be hard. Just to let you know, In Pantheon there is a long Morph ball Right? Well Just like Pantheon there is a long Morph ball. So expect to get like, 200 Missiles, 25 Supers, and 15 Powers, Before Morph ball.

Be careful to make sure to remove ALL permastucks without morphball, that removes a lot of possible tile layouts. Also, geez, morphball is the first item in my hack lol.

1. That looks like a pain to traverse quickly.
2. Whats up with those blocks above the doors?
3. entering from the right door, if you have enough speed I believe it's possible to embed yourself into the solid tiles two tiles away from the right door.
