It's not that much trouble. But I agree.

I've been attempting the Space Jump First (SJF) for about 3~4 hours now, and I have been studying the slowed down youtube vid.

For the first 2 hours I didn't realize that you needed to double tap jump to get the dash to activate.
And by watching the video, i'm sure that you have to slow down that double tap to JUST long enough so that the ship edge thinks you're regular jumping, but you still have time to dash jump.

For more technical terms, think this way.
The ship edge waits .5 seconds before giving you the height boost. If you haven't Dash Jumped, you get the boost.
The Dash Jump allows you .6 seconds to activate it.
This would mean there is a .1 second time frame where you get the height boost from the ship as well as can activate the Dash Jump.

These are just theoretical times (and likely way to high), but that's my hypothesis.

With me working on SJF too now, this seems like a likely idea. Hopefully we can break this down and get more people doing it.

What do you mean by needing to double tap jump?

The dash performed is called a freez dash. To get the dash to work, you must stafe off a ledge while locked onto an enemy and right before you fall off, you jump. So lock on, strafe off ledge and jump right before you fall. If done correctly, your dash goes farther and higher. It is very rare for the dash to happen off the back of the ship for some reason, which makes this trick so unpredictable. I suggest practicing this dash on other ledges to get the hang of it. I've realized that when you perform the dash perfectly, there is no sound made by the jump. I bet the lift from the ship does help too but that's not the main reason why you would make it.

A video of the freez dash:

Also, the descriptions for the new techniques should really be put in the first post.

Umm... It sounds like you're using the Space Jump in the Freez Jump...

We're trying to GET the Space Jump. We can't jump a second time once we dash off the ship.

The strafe itself eats up your first jump. We can't "Jump right before we fall" because we don't have any more jumps.

No, you jump right before you fall off the ledge. You stand at the edge of a ledge while locked on, you then strafe off the edge and jump right at the same time.

Buuut Strafing eats up your jump...

Either we're talking the exact same thing, just poor communication, or we're talking entirely different things and it'll only lead to confusion.

By strafing he just means walking sideways with a lock on.

Here's the legitimate SJF video:

Now watch the slowed down video.

If you look close you can actually see see that the player rises twice.
At Second 2 you actually see him start to dip down and rise again.

That is what caused me to believe my hypothesis I stated earlier.

Well, I just got the Trilogy the other day seeing it was on special. I had already finished MP3 soon after it's release but didn't share much interest and I only escaped from the Frigate Ship in MP1. I've only just recently got 100% items + logbooks and I found a very small, and pointless 'Sequence Break'. Go to the room where you get the Morph Ball and use the boost ball (not sure if required as you can get Space Jump Boots with Morph Ball Bomb) to get up onto the side right to the Wave door. Space jump to the foward/right-most chandelier... (at least I think it's a chandelier. Then space jump to the front of the chandelier. You can then space jump to the door and go to the Tower of Light where you can get the Wavebuster, you can also get the Artifact by Ghetto jumping I think without the Gravity Suit.

EDIT: I have also been trying Space Jump First in this and there a few ways I have seen. The first one is where you go in the direction the Artifact temple is and lock on to one of those spike shooting things and go back to the ship. The other way is to go to the door to the left, you then walk until the beetles come out of the ground and you come back out the door and lock on to them and dash to the right. It seems that when I do the first way, if I practice right next to the door way where I lock on to the spikey things, I can easily do it but once i get on the ship I instantly fail.

EDIT 2: It seems one person has got SJF in MPT.

But how would it be SJF if you have a morph ball?

It's SJE not SJF with the morph ball.

Actually AFAIK, there has only been 3 or 4 people who have gotten SJE in the trilogy version.

There are 3 different ways of getting to it though, 2 bomb jump methods and the freez dash method. Once you get the hang of one of them, it shouldn't be too hard.

I got the Artifact of Livegiver and Wavebuster in MPT with only Missiles, Space Jump and Wavebeam. (I think, the one near the Tower of Light) with the artifact, go to the underwater section near the door on the roof. Stand in the center of that small area and press 'Z'. (not sure if required) Move slightly to the left and walk foward, you'll notice that there is a chunk sticking out and if you look up there is a cut in the ledge. Walk backwards and get a run up to the big rock and jump just before you hit it, jump again at the peak of your jump (you must move slightly back on your second jump as the ledge sticks out) and move towards the ledge. Then just jump through the door. Took me maybe 2 hours to get it?

I'm pretty sure that what you described is just the ghetto jump method which has been known for a while now.

I find it hard to pull off in this version so I discovered another way of getting up:

It is also possible to sasuke hop up there by locking onto one of the enemies in the tower.

I only mentioned because it was possible on GC but it wasn't mentioned here in the topic post.

Servin' you realness!!
I just watched an IGN review of the trilogy and it raised a question.  The reviewer said that some of the hard spots have been made easier in the trilogy, and cited the spider ball guardian and boost guardian as examples (he does this around 4:00 in the video).  I haven't noticed anything different, but I'm sure someone here can tell me exactly what has been changed in these fights (and others maybe?) to make them easier.

eeeeyyaaghhh!
I didn't notice it being any easier when I played, but I guess it makes sense for them to do that.

my umbrella goes directly to Bankai
someone told me that the spider boss' hitbox was smaller in the trilogy version. i never noticed because i never had problems with him.

boost guardian is the same bitch as always. the thing is that the new easy mode makes him actually manageable for non-speedrunners and not a pain like in the GC version.

to me it seems the ign guys missed the fact that the trilogy's normal mode is a new easier mode and that veteran is GC's normal mode. i've seem several people confused over this in other forums. i guess people should have undusted their GC versions to compare properly.
