Hyper difficulty, by the way. Not wanting to do the one-shot method because it's too cheap, I decided to kill the first two Hatchers as early as possible, so I had to do it the long way (but briefly going into Hypermode when it was time to shoot its mouth, as the charged Plasma beam doesn't do enough damage), and the third one I decided to kill in a special way. I think it's probably one of the most stylish ways you can kill it.

So, I shot at its tentacles with my uncharged Nova Beam until they all retracted, then fired a charged Nova shot into its mouth to stun it. Then, I ripped a tentacle off. I carried on like this until there was just one tentacle left.

I shot its tentacle a few times, then fired a charged shot into its mouth... This is the point where it would die if I ripped its last tentacle off. But no! At this point, when it's stunned and waiting to be grappled for the last time, I switched to my X-Ray Visor and shot its heart!

Sorry for the slight bump but it's still on the first page... I haven't been here for a while, and for UchihaSasuke's benefit I really want to emphasise the fact that I said in the first post, and I quote,

"Not wanting to do the one-shot method because it's too cheap"

I actually like fighting these guys properly.

Servin' you realness!!
I don't like killing the hatchers the traditional way because the pulling mechanic doesn't work so great and pisses me off sometimes.

I think when the pulling mechanic doesn't work it's just the game throwing in a "it's not gonna work this time" effect into the battle. It fucking sucks though I agree.

Never stressed
The pulling mechanic doesn't work because the nunchuk only has an accelerometer for motion tracking and it's really shitty. The game's only fault in that respect is requiring you to use it.

Even if the pulling worked consistently fighting those things would still be unbelievably tedious.

Pulling and pushing are interchangeable. You can actually rip off a panel / tentacle etc. in reverse if you want, by pulling first and then pushing to rip. Try that and see if it works better for you.

hmm, even so, I remember it failing to pull off tentacles when I was doing the motion totally correctly. Then on another turn it would work with almost no effort at all. I'm pretty sure the game is programmed to make some turns fail regardless of the motion.

I think I know what the problem might be. Since the Nunchuk's motion system is as poor as it is, it takes a moment to realise you've actually stopped moving it. If you yank twice very quickly, it'll probably only register one yank. Try waiting a little longer in between, and remember that it doesn't matter whether you push or pull - whichever way is easier for you will work.

By the way, you know how if you twist the Nunchuk while attached to a Lasso target (but not a Voltage-only target), you can twist the Grapple Beam around? Does this actually do anything, or is it just an effect?
