This thread is not a troll. Simply, a thought I was pondering, I recall waking up, and logging on a few years ago, to find excitement, and hilarity, and new awesome Metroid related things. The moderators, the staff was amazing and did a great job, I want to know what happened. I know a few left, but all of the mods don't care about their duty, and abuse it, just because "it seems like it shouldn't be here", or "user is stupid for making this thread", what the hell is that? Where did the cool people go?

Answer me, please. What happened to this site?

I don't care that much when a thread of mine is locked, well yeah it's a little annoying cause it shows the lack of humor mods seem to have, or rather their own esoteric sense of what's funny and what's not. But when you delete my posts, I don't like that. At all.

this has always been a forum for discussing metroid sequence breaking and speed tricks. the social boards were added as an afterthought, and we've never tolerated gamefaqs-like nonsense threads here. m2k2sda is full of elitist people and is a more serious community than others you might find on the internet. it's always been that way, like it or not. if you want to "dick around", do it somewhere else.

i do agree that most of the mods here don't care anymore, but i also understand why. they don't exactly have much to work with. hopefully once other m is released things will get more lively again and we'll draw in some more intelligent people.

Could you explain that a bit better? I don't know what a gamefaqs-like nonsense thread is.

Ultra Rambo is a good example.

M2K2 isn't like any other forum I know of. As Andrew once said, the average IQ is much higher then most forums. All the staff (seems to) get along fine with eachother, and usually on forums there will be at least one case of two staff members disliking each other. Other M will probably bring in some idiots, but it seems like the idiots that do come on here eventually just leave after awhile, or are banned.

"hey let's play a forum game"
"hey here's something 'random' and 'funny'"
"hey let me post random thoughts for you to not read"
"hey here's something not really important that can't generate much intelligent discussion"

basically just use the social topic for stuff like that— that's (sort of) what it's there for. beware that if one of the mods deems it pointless or stupid, it will be deleted even from the social topic. basically, if it's not intelligent or won't draw intelligent responses, don't bother posting it on this forum.

We all need to leave then. You, everyone. Let's all take your advice and stop posting. If one mod thinks something is stupid then it must be. :)
Right?

Alright so yeah I can understand that nonsense building up can cause a heap of garbage in an otherwise clean forum. But that statement there, the one you just made. It's pathetic. I know most forums tend to operate in many ways like a dictatorship, but seriously, I've never once gave a flying fuck about rules I feel not apply to my posts. I don't break serious rules, and sometimes I like to have fun, and from what I've gathered, a few people here actually got a laugh or a good long think out of some shit I've said this past week. Tool.

What reason do you have to be "elitist" for? It's not like you people even find new sequence breaks or speed tricks anymore. The only one actually doing that anymore is kejardon, who's been breaking super metroid forever. Now you discuss already found plot holes in metroid games and discuss other random crap on the social board. Doesn't sound elitist to me.

It always struck me as a "inb4 2006 or we h8 u" kinda thing. It's not necessarily because this is a "more serious forum" (geezus shit, take one look at tomatobob and that should tell you something is seriously wrong with using the word "serious" to describe the demeanor around here,) but more of a non-inclusive community that only respects all of the old members and none of the new ones. Just makes me sick to my stomach.

Then again, in the forum's defense, I don't have to be posting here anyway (I don't know why I still am) and nothing I say will ever matter because this is not, and never will be, a democracy.

I really wanted to get that off of my chest. :[

it's how we operate here, and it's how it has always been. like ark said, this is more of a serious forum, so we discourage things that aren't actual discussion.

that's what we are doing, we are TRYING to encourage discussion, be it about whatever topic, there was a thread made, because we'd like to talk about it.
But no, our topics are declared stupid and closed.

Well, uh, I haven't been here for very long. But I've been in and out of various messages boards for quite a number of years now, including currently being an administrator at a board with 11,000+ members, so I've been keen to observe how social dynamics change over time.

What spawns inevitable contempt towards mods and vice-versa is when the subjective nature of what people post starts being called into question more or automatically deemed unfunny or unacceptable without being given a chance to potentially turn into something great. The ERVEYONE GET IN HERE QUICK topic by Dman is a prime example of that. It was harmless, silly, fun, and LOCKED despite nothing intrinsically offensive going on. This is the kind of stuff you wanna avoid.

Basically, as long as there isn't hate and member feuding spreading from topic to topic and poisoning the content of the forum as a whole, there's no reason to axe a topic right away if what goes on in that topic is being confined solely to that topic. Ya dig?

That's my two cents. Sorry for the rusty pennies. They were in the condom pocket of my jeans for several years without my knowing and probably got washed at least a hundred times.

well if it was declared stupid then there probably was never any real discussion occuring.

Grime's got a point. Also being a member/moderator of numerous forums over the last decade, it doesn't take long to sniff out the social dynamic of a particular board. But if you think you've got me pinned as a troll or unintelligent poster, you've got another thing coming. Get with the program and realize that a forum becomes richer with more content, be it intelligent, silly, ranty, etc. If you limit variables of the personality of a forum, you're just acting out in a xenophobic manner where you've set camp and decide who is worthy enough to share the flame.

Yet I'm still baffled at the whole 'serious' nature of this forum. What, is it more intelligent to discuss whether you're pro or anti-gay marriage then to discuss the nature of aliens or random streams of consciousness?

OMG FLAN!!!!!!!
I've never really had a brush with a mod here, but it seems that mods think it is *their* forum. They don't like something, so they get rid of it, instead of letting it flourish into something that could work well.

I think the mods are forgetting that they probably didn't start out as mods. I'd be pretty surprised if a mod has never posted a stupid topic.

Also regarding Dmans closed topics, wtf?
