This topic is win.

The mods don't let us have any fun, but when they make stupid posts, it's perfectly ok.
There have been alot of topics I have seen that were harmless fun, but have still been locked.

I'm sure alot of people have wanted to say this to alot of the mods (not all of them, as some are still cool):
FUCK YOU!!!

haha, that was fun

All the new people almost exclusively stick to the Hacks boards anyway, so we don't get the chance to be non-inclusive. :p

This forum has never been run like most other forums, it's always been much more strict about what you can and can't post even on the social boards. You can't expect the administration to suddenly change their policies because new people don't feel the need to adjust to the established order of things.

You just dropped the ball, devonodev. Now nothing (not even my awesome posts) in this topic will be taken seriously because you brought all of the focus upon yourself.

I HOPE YOU'RE ABLE TO LIVE WITH THAT.

Quite true, quite true. You ever wonder, though, why we stick to the Hacks boards? It's really because when you come out here, BAM, moderation hits you like a brick wall and you start to realize how truly ugly some of this forum's existence has come to be. :( Kinda like a safe haven for those of us who can't toughen up and be the sarcastic, self-serving master trolls that you need to be to live on your own. But hey, that's life.

DMantra: You got pretty hyper and a couple of your game-threads got locked. End of the Forum Forever? O_o

interdpth: Most of the community left. Other people came in. Naturally it's not gonna feel the same. There isn't even much sequence breaking anymore.

I doubt Ark even realizes the broadness of his posts. There's been a lot of dumb stuff that goes on that doesn't get deleted, and only like 2 members have ever been banned for being annoying. The boards are a more "serious nature" than GameFAQs. That's really not saying a lot. I participate in forum games every so often, too. Just not here. I come here to see if people are looking for help to be pro at Fusion or something, and there's also a social section. Once in a blue moon the mods do something dumb and it gets removed later on. You don't hear me cussing myself out for removing that locked thread from 2005 from the Other M board.

Silly games tend to multiply. A couple people post silly topics, then everyone thinks they can be funny too.

To an extent, good fun is tolerated here. The line is varying shades of grey, though, so don't be so surprised.

M2K2 is what it is. I don't think it's fair that people expect it to change as they join.
If so there are better places to go do other sort of stuff on.
And as DMan said over IRC, the got metconst to go to.

So why bother in the first place?

...but I have to agree with inter, where did all the activity go? :<
When SCU did shutdown and I came, here, there was lots of activity! :3

the forum thrives on metroid games. if there isn't any new metroid stuff to talk about, the forums are dead. hopefully when other m is released there'll be more activity 'round here.

Hacks are metroid games to.  Although they aren't on the same level, in either production or popularity, I'd say they still count.  I know that alot people have joined M2K2 recently and mostly stick to that board. (I know I do)

My point, is that there is still quite a bit of metroid stuff to talk about, the forums aren't dead.  Its just that not everyone likes hacks.

I don't think I've ever made a post outside of the Social section (other then posting once or twice in the "Post your time and difficulty here" in the MZM section).

The Other M board got pretty crazy the day of its announcement. A couple people stayed, others just vanished into thin air. It's gonna last much, much longer than a day once there's a game actually available to play. Or maybe someone's gonna speedrun Corruption some day. >_>

Until then, yeah, most of the activity is in the hacks/fangames boards.

Don't see where this reference to #jzd came from, but just want to go on record as saying that even though some of the "negative" people here show up in #jzd a lot, they also show up in other channels.  #jzd is a channel of individual people with individual minds, not the borg, and most certainly do not all feel this way.

As long as I'm in here though, let me say that I think it is amusing that:
1) Some of the people who were intentionally trolling before (page 212 anyone?) are now complaining that threads get locked . . . Do some threads get locked for virtually no reason?  Sure do.  But you can't be a troll one day and stand up for poster's rights the next without losing some credibility.  I know different threads, different reasons, etc... But it forces the mods to be in "safemode" (ie- kill it before it grows into something ugly).
2) I've had threads locked on another board for just as little reason as on m2k2, yet none of the people who are whining about m2k2 are whining on that other board (even though most of them frequent both boards).
3) Teenagers can look back on how things were "back in the day" before all the "new people" showed up.  laugh new

I can understand wanting to keep the site focused on more serious, hardcore subjects, but showing people some basic respect is something that's incredibly easy to do but that I rarely see around here... particularly when someone posts something about their life, even if it's in the social topic, and they immediately get blasted with responses going "no one cares", that's just unnecessarily being an asshole.

I'll guess that this post (which was deleted, go figure) was directed at me. And I'll respond by saying that it was a serious suggestion. I've seen spam boards work wonders for many forums. Hell, I have one on my own forum and it works wonders there too.

Or are you pointing me out as a problem with this forum? Because that's a totally valid claim, too. :P

not sure what you mean. as long as it's in the social topic, i don't believe people are getting "blasted". posts about your personal life are supposed to go there; they don't warrant their own topic on these boards. this is a primarily a metroid forum.

I've stickied this thread because I feel that many of the issues raised are extremely valid ones.  I don't want to say much right now because I'm tired as hell and can't devote as much attention to it as it deserves.  What it deserves is serious thought and consideration, and I will give it my best shot as soon as possible, like tomorrow if I have time.
