Release date: 19th January

Released MONTHS ahead of the UK! (And if my UK Nintendo source is accurate, it may not hit the UK until June! Rolling Eyes). They wait months for an inferior (Dark) Echoes so get Pinball before the bigger UK/European market?  :?

I'm tempted to buy this (simply to get it all up on the site). I doubt there'll be any version differences at all (this isn't Retro we're talking about here you know!) ;) But I reckon there may be some subtle difficulty differences (packaging and manual aside).

it probably costs very little to release stuff like that in japan, even less than with "normal" metroid games, because of the very small amount of localization required. an american e.g. final fantasy v may have sold more here than metroid prime pinball will sell there, but it would have required a ton more localization to port. that's just the view from here, anyway. i could be totally wrong.

That box is totally kick ass. Japan always gets the best box art. ;(

i really wonder, though, if it's just that people subconsciously respect japan, and consciously respect their box art following from that, unbeknownst to them that they don't "really" like it, at least not in an objective manner like they think they are liking it.

Well, when I said "always", I didn't literally mean always. But...just look at the box! It's wayyy better than America's version, and I'd feel the same if that boxart were from the UK, Afghanistan, or Indonesia.

nature of subconscious bias means you can't say that without a scientific test.

It would sure be nice if that Triclops would ever miss the hole once in a while when it picks me up.

At least I finally beat it.  :D

The box art is a bit too "busy" for my ever-so-refined tastes.

...huh?

He most likely didn't mean to include the word "even", as that's what makes the sentence confusing.

I live in the middle of everything. I buy European games which usually share the US boxart, as well as import Japanese games. And Japanese almost always have the best boxart.

A solid example would be MP: Echoes. Pinball another. Gradius V... Have you seen Gradius V? The American boxart is all "I have MORE detail! It's supposed to make me cooler!" But the details added just makes it look badly done.

... I could go on forever about that Gradius V box... For some reason, they added a glow around the title. Making it stick out more against the background, but making the "V" under there flow together with itself in an unnoticable fashion. The V shape is the most important part of the title, darnit! Then they added these off-center, miniature, RED lasers coming from the ship... they're big and blue in-game, and come from the sides of the ship, so why red from underneath, I don't know. Then they gave the Options circling the ship new swoosh-lines, making it look like, instead of circling the ship, they fly from exactly everywhere, to exactly everywhere else!

So minor, but so stupid...
