In a discussion in the RBO thread, I suggested a potential TAS optimization. I'm sure everyone knows that you can start a Shinespark in the top-right corner of the area, and zoom to the left (through the break-away rock) and all the way through the next room. Well, the idea was that it may be possible to fire a Wave Beam shot through the rocks so that it will open the door by the time you get there with the Shinespark.

I tested this on my own TAS console. I don't believe that it's possible to do, for a quirky reason.

The timing does in fact seem to be possible, but the screen-scrolling gimmick ruins any chances of it ever being exploited. The screen will not scroll over until you actually pass through the break-away mountain, which means your beam will die before you get there. If you do get there in time to scroll the screen over for the beam, you'll have to have been going faster than it and it will not open the door in time.

Attached is a ZSNES movie I generated to experiment with this optimization that never was. Rename it so the filename is identical to a copy of the JU version of the ROM, save for the .zmv part. It will load as movie #0.

Waaaaaaa i want insanity
This is possible in realtime.
Just not the wave beam bit.
Maybe you could try a missle.
I'll upload a vid of me doing it on pal.

Pal version has many noticable differences than the NTSC version and also has a few tricks that are easier to perform twofold.

Torizo skip, anyone?

Yeah but in PAL Samus moves faster and doors open slower if I recall correct.

And doors opening slower does certainly not make this trick any more possible haha.  grin new

In a TAS, you can use a perfect stutter-short charge to charge a shine on the entrance to the Gauntlet.

And unassisted you can use wave to wrap a shot around from the right side of the room to open the door hen short charge and spark straight through.  It's what I'm planning on doing in my 100% run.

BlueGlass,

I have tried numerous areas for wrapping a shot around to open that door, many weeks ago. Do you mind saying exactly where the shot must be fired to work? And you say you were able to do it with just the wave beam, uncharged and without the spazer?

Sorry.  I should have made that clearer.  I normally do it with wave/plasma, but I know it can also be done with wave/spazer.  Not sure about just wave, though I assume with the right placement it would be possible.

The wrapping the shot around was discovered by Kejardon (I think) and this particular spark was discovered by me.  Here's an smv (recorded with v 1.51).  Not very well-done as I fell off the ledge after charging the spark, but oh well, you get the idea.

My god!  That was pretty awesome, heh.  I wish I would have known about that for my RBO  :x

Well, nice one.

Please try to speak clearer. Shinespark is done like this: Gather high speed so that you see Samus's echoes, then crouch the way you don't release forward before you crouch, the timing has to be accurate.

And for the avatar (picture under your name) check your personal settings I'm sure you'll find the answer there.
