yeah i know it can be done but my question is, is it worth it for a speed run??

doing so i dont have to go down and then up again for high jump, of course i'd have to bomb my way from the first room and use ice beam which i plan on getting as soon as i go to norfair to climb for the speed booster

after that while returning the the main room i will get the boots, this will also help me keep energy a bit but im not sure if its worth the time saved

also as a last note im gonna use my joypad to record a run, im not planning any artistic perfect run as a TAS. this run will be mainly to show my playstyle so that you can help me improve it and make it faster

I'm pretty sure grabbing ice beam before speed booster and high jump on the way out would actually be slower.  It would probably only be faster if you were to get ice bam at the normal time and wall jump up the bubble room, somehing that, without high jump, is insanely hard and not at all worth it.

wow just did something great

i used the power bomb+wave beam on phantoon, im not sure of his life but if this counts for 4 supers its quite a big difference

All four shots hit?  Seriously?!  Wow.  Time to revise our Phantoon strats then.

Also, if all four hit, it would be the same as hitting Phantoon with two supers, because supers case him double damage.

That's right.
bomb+wave beam is usable for Phantoon.

Hotarubi said he can kill Phantoon in 2 round by using combo beam, even on console...
He didn't use this strategy because it is too difficult and risky to do in single-segment run.
If he try to record any% run segmented, we will see Phantoon 2 round kill.

wow really?? never thought it could be that good

my idea is this, i shoot 2 ice+wave charged shots, then i unequip ice and charge for the combo, i estimate time and spin jump a bit till i see phantoon coming to a centered beam and that way i just release and hit him with the four

very hard indeed but since that is the begininng of a segment for me once i get used to the hard shinespark i can pratice this

also catnap, what were some of the unused tricks by hotarubi?? id like to take advantage of any hard/insane speed trick if it grants me a faster time

It would probably be better if you used spazer/wave shots, because that way the second round can be spazer/wave, missile, super.  Also, do you think you might be able to make a video, because I'm having trouble picuring how it would work.

im working on a smv where i do my exact route, its just a test so it wont be flawless but it will be understandeable

however im having trouble with snes9x as the only way it runs is with turbo mode which i cant make to emulate exact speed

Only runs in turbo mode?  Wierd.  Are you sure there isn't some way to turn the turbo mode off?

whenever i turn turbo mode off it freezes

anyway i just finished it, the weird time of the emulator frustrated me quite often and many things didnt work out

clear time was 36 which is very bad :(

anyway my goal was to show somehow my playstyle and its there

also blueglass, thanks to you and kejardon i got a new idea on how to kill phantoon, i used first 2 charged ice/wave and 4 hits of the powerbomb+wave

then i did 2 more charged and thanks to what you and kejardon said about multipliers and about this way having a chance to miss to powerbomb shots i decided to use a super missile instead

edit: oh yeah i forgot to mention one thing!!

i did this run on the PAL Rom which meant many changes like on the lava room at norfair

Erm, what version of snes9x are you using, and is it a headered or unheadered Super Metroid ROM?  I tried to watch it, but it desynced in the second room of Ceres.  And, just curious, why did you use the European version?  It's almost definitely the worse one for speedrunning.

And about the Phantoon fight, it would be slightly faster to use wave/spazer in the first round, then for the second round, hit with one charge shot, followed by a missile, then the super missile.

snes9x-1.43-win32

the rom is:
Super Metroid(E)

im not sure about the headered thingy, i dont understand many things from emus

also i dont know if it is needed but i used turbo mode skipping 1 frame

and about the rom, i used that version because even though i tried very hard i was unable to find another one

edit: unbelievable, not even i can watch it fully

i was trying to record the avi but it desyncs at brinstar before charge beam

Quote from Azor:

link to a rom

You aren't allowed to post links to roms.  You should probably edit your post before a mod sees it and shout at you.

EDIT: Unfortunately, the smv isn't working for me witth either headered or unheadered roms.  I know some versions of snes9x have a feature to convert a smv to some kind of movie file.  If yours does, it would probably be best to do that and upload the video to somewhere like FileFront if you want me to see it, as I seem unable to watch the .smv.  Sorry.

like recording to AVI??

unfortunately this option doesnt seem to work, either way i got a savestate at phantoon so for now im just gonna post the 2 round kill

edit: ok i got it, im gonna post the smv because the AVI is too big, also i dont know which type of compression is best

anyway here it is

thanks ^_^

the only problem is that im not yet sure how to make his eye open fast >_>

i remember someone saying it depended on which frame you entered the room or something like that

i have the feeling that that segment is gonna be insanely hard, like a collection of my weaknesses

the4 wrecked ship spark i can pull it off really easy...the supermissile way and as i am counting with that super missile i gotta learn how to to the beam way

also the phantoon fight, im gonna reset quite much to get a perfect fight, im gonna use a second tape for that single segment

the pre gravity suit spark is also hard for me, yet if i manage to replenish enough health at phantoon it might be a breeze

other than that the segment is a breeze
