Why am I so amazing?
In my Religious Studies class, we're currently exploring the subject of Hinduism. Today, specifically, we focused on Hindu philosophy, and I was most suprised to come across some terms I had actually heard before... in Soul Calibur 2 of all places. Here's some background:

In Hindu philosophy, they percieve time as a eternally repeating cycle. The cycle of the universe is called Kalpa. The Kalpa is divided into four parts, called Yugas. The first is the Satya Yuga, followed by Treta Yuga, Dwapara Yuga, and Kali Yuga. In addition, each Kalpa is divided into 14 Manus, and each Manu into 71 Chatur-Yugas. Now, let's look at the terms that show up in Soul Calibur 2:

Kali-Yuga: This is the name of the original staff that Kilik wields. It was corrupted by the evil of the Soul Edge, and Kilik seeks to excersize the evil heald within both it and himself. In Hindu philosophy, Kali Yuga is the last Yuga in the cycle before it starts again. It is the Yuga that we are currently living in, and is the era of chaos, greed, violence, debauchery and lies.

Dvarpa-Yuga: This is the necklace Kilik wears, which belonged to his close friend Xianglian, who he killed when he was possesed by the evil light.  In Hindu philosophy, this is the 3rd Yuga, where people were only engaged in penance and chairity, and were kingly and pleasure seeking.

Krita-Yuga: This is the sword that Xianghua wielded, that was actually the Soul Calibur in disguise. In Hindu philosophy, Krita Yuga is a Chatur-Yuga that is around 1,440,000 years long.

Now, I've only lightly researched this stuff so far for my own curiosity (actual schoolwork kind of takes priority), so there may be even more to this. I'm not sure exactly what kind of connection Kilik has to Hinduism; he was raised in the Ling-Sheng Su Temple in China, and Hinduism originated in India. I can't seem to find exactly what kind of temple it was, so it may have been Hindu, but I'm not entirely sure on the history of how, where, or when Hinduism spread. In any case, I find these connections very interesting, and hopefully I'll learn more about it.

Isn't that always the place where cylic philosphies place us? Why do we always insist on making our time the worst time to be? So that the only way out is to join this religion? It makes me think...

Actually, according to Hindu philosophy the universe will just cycle back to Satya Yuga on it's own, and bring everyone (Hindu and non-Hindu) along for the ride.
