Sparky has the professional run going, Caveberry has his modestly put "amateur" run, and I will now be posting my own. I'd love any feedback you all may have. I'm still pretty new to this (been speed running it off and on since my first success with SJBF back in December '09), but I figured it'd be fun to record and share my metroidianly primal antics...

You did it! That was some impressive running there. You've come so far. I can't really coach you on too much, I think you used most all of the major tricks.

Just something to note. If you're going to use that save room before PQ, let PQ's cutscene play out for a couple seconds so that the sheild will be in the correct location when the battle starts.

Also, I could learn a thing or two from your video quality. My "Pinnacle" software is not cutting it. I can actually read your escape timer!

Not sure why I decided to save at PQ, and I don't know what the timing is for the video to get it lined up again. I just went with what I got ;)

I love when self proclaimed 'amateur' speedrunners can do the first 4 lights in the game way better than me ;_;
Honestly though, great job. Good to see some talent coming from the darkness

The next segment. Don't mind the burn dome...

I've always found it easier during the Incinerator Drone fight to stand on the little lip at the top of it while shooting the war wasps so it's really hard to miss it when it pops up.  It also allows you to fall onto the bombs immediately after it dies.

I tried that but had a lot of trouble actually hitting the target when it pops out. It's right there in your face, you shoot it, but nothing happens. Is there a trick to it?

I've always just been able to shoot it.  I have no idea why it wouldn't work.

Hmmm... maybe I'll try again.

it's faster to be moderately close and just walk to it

It's not the prettiest early wild, but I got it on my first attempt and I'm good with that... for now.

nice EW. The energy module pickup left something to be desired though ;)

Well, that run was 80% great. The rest of it just needed a little more patience. I like to unmorph after bombing that wall on the way to flaggy, so that the morphball doesn't do anything crazy (like it did in your video). Everything else was just silly stuff, and the chozo fight was out of your hands mostly.

Now that there are three runs up on the site maybe we should have a competition?

always move fast
very cool.  the last couple bombs of early wild were awesome.  that's about as good as you can do.

regarding idrone: if you stand really close you have to make sure you're directly in front of the eye or you won't hit it.

also, one of my favorite things is when people realize "oh wait, sjf isn't so bad, no need to save there."

I guess I never realized that there was an optimal way to bomb jump while performing early wild. It's true though, five or six of your bombs exploded at the perfect distance below you, not only to give you great height, but also save you time waiting for the bomb to go off. Cool stuff.

Does anyone know how fast, ideally, the ibj should be done?

if you get it in 9 bombs i think you are doing pretty good as i have never done it in less.

Figured out the iDrone. I wasn't locking on to the eye, or if I thought I did it was actually a wasp behind it. I've done it a few times now without issue. Now, I was just about to post my next segment, but youtube deemed it too long and took it down. I'll have to fix it after work.

Oh yeah, and after my idrone experimentation I went ahead and did EW again, straight down and straight back up with several of those well placed bombs. Not sure how many I used but it was beautiful. I'm finally getting it down to where it's not so much of a terror to have to do. Wish I done that in this run... eh. Next time... next time.

idrone? if that's the burn dome fire spitter then what is the shorthand for the invisible drone in phazon?

iirc 'i.drone' or 'i. drone' was originally used mainly for invisible drone. don't quote me on that though ...

Not bad for such a long segment. I nearly spit out my drink after the 3rd fall from HOTE's midlevel though.

Do you have an end goal in mind? Sub 1:20 before Ridley perhaps?

Nice crumbly jump too... ;)

I'm doing a speedrun just for fun as well, and I'm a little ahead of you, but this reminded me a lot of mine :P Like in the room with the icicles shortly before sheegoth I forgot about them and morphed lol. I wasn't as brave as you though - split that last one into two segments. I noticed in main plaza you missed boosting to that door - I used to do that too but what you have to do is aim for the inside of the pillars and you should get in the doorway. I also missed that hall of the elders jump, kinda frustrating. And lastly, have fun with that damn great tree hall gate jump :(

Here's links to my segments i mentioned:

PS I'm using player's choice version so no scan dashes :/
