I'm rounding up items for 100%.  I really do enjoy this game, though I wish it went back to the non linear super metroid formula. 

In any case, I'm down to my last 3 items in sector 3. 
They seem to both be in completely inaccessible parts of the map.  from the looks of it, they are in that long glass corridor where the lava shark thingy leaped up and bit a hole in the middle of it.  I cannot space jump to it and I can't use my grapple to reach the mid gap.
  how can I get back to this part.  I can't believe I forgot how to get here.

On the side closest to the glass tunnel in the lava room, go through the door on the right. It's a small room that connects the outside part of the room with the glass tunnel.

OK this is really weird.  The first time I played through the game, I beat Ridley on my first attempt and couldn't believe how easy he was.  THIS time, however, I have 2 more energy tanks and a much better grasp of the combat, yet I have died 5 times in a row. Does his health change according to your %, like mecha-ridley in ZM?

Not every attack from Ridley actually kill you in one hit on Hard Mode.  His grab won't and something else that I forgot won't.

my umbrella goes directly to Bankai
apparently that's correct. no extra boss or escape sequence since the savefile doesn't update itself after beating the game.

Well, like they say on other sites and games: You always have to dodge.

And I have to facepalm at my own idiocy here.

The fauna storage room in Sector 1's East Side (the one with the trees in the tubes)... you know the missile balcony you can see from Search Mode from the stairs? Is the other side of the door on the C-shaped room or before that?

I'm on my second visit to the bioweapon research center. I'm stuck in a room with three tanks on either side, and several closed rooms on the far and right sides. I've been all over the room, shot and looked at everything I could imagine, and I can't figure out what to do. All exits out of the room are locked.

In my first and secdond playthroughs, I didn't experience this problem at all but it appears that I am stuck.  I have 98% of the items and I cant figure out how to get to the secret boss!  Been running in circles for 45 minutes between main sector and sector 2 and it appears that coming into the area with the last two items is not enterable from either side.  WTF am I missing here?

by 'there' do you mean sector 2? because if thats true then I'm getting stuck in the elevator shaft room.  Cant seem to go any further than that.
