Hi, first post here.

My question is if any posters here have played Super Metroid Redesign or Super Metroid Dependence on a real SNES console through the use of a game copier or flash cart.

I know redesign crashes on zsnes 1.51, and other game hacks are known not to work on real hardware.

This is crucial information for me since I am going to buy one of these devices if it allows me to play Redesign and other hacks on my real snes.

Legacy, Limit, and Dependence only change level and graphics data, so they should work just fine, but Redesign has a lot of coding changes that might be interpreted badly by the original hardware. I don't actually know what I'm talking about regarding Redesign, but there's no reason the other hacks wouldn't work.

It should work as long as the ROM is headered

Of the 2 hacks I've played, I've heard that Redesign is too huge for a cart, and Limit is simply far too tough (next to impossible) if you don't use savestates. I don't think anyone - even the heroes of this site - ever seriously contemplated beating it on the original console for very long.

I guess I need to play Dependence and Legacy, though. Are either of them as close to impossible as Impossible?

No. Redesign is only 4 mebibytes, which is the same as the Donkey Kong Country series

I wouldn't count on that. I think the really good players only need savestates when playing on emu because of the keyboard. At least for me playing the hack on console would be so much easier I think that I wouldn't need savestated, and I don't think it's impossible.

Now I dissagree with that, I find SM much easier on my keyboard, for example, I am a crappy walljumper on console, and on emu, I could fly up the side of the empire stae building. laugh new

But do you have enough energy?
I'd do the first round the world speedrun, with my gravity suit, and speedbooster Laughing

Since you are talking about hacks here I thought I might ask my question in this thread instead of making a new one.

I want to start playing a SM hack, I have already played redesign and impossible. Which one do you guys recomend? The ones I have heard most of are legacy dependence and limit, which one is the best? Preferably it should be hard but nothing ridiculous.

What is Metroid Reverse? We should have a topic listing some info about all the good hacks.
