Has anyone noticed this with Phantoon?

My brother (AKA Evilmanic) was playing Super Metriod on the SNES, fighting Phantoon at about half health, with the Varia Suit. Ok, he just as he set the Power Bomb, and it blew up, He got eaten. He reloaded his save, and it happened again! Then he reset the darn game, and it happened again, also, HE was at full health with the Varia Suit the last 2 times.

Has anyone ever had this happen before? I want to know, because it is cheesy and cool all at the same time.

Anyways after I set the power bomb Phantoon warped, zip, flashed, chaos controled, or IT to my postion with his/its mouth open and I die. I have play the game in a while but it happen.

Those 3 times that it did happen, is the only time in my history of playing/seeing the game that it has happened.

I think it is just one of those things like, Ridley grabbing you, and Ridley getting stuck under the platform.

Embarrasing Fact: Power suit made by lowest bidder

Ridley's AI glitch with getting stuck in the ground is caused by his movement following a specific pattern. It's rare because Ridley's AI has so much freedom and is hard to precisely predict or manipulate. But the cause of it's fairly clear. No idea what you mean by Ridley grabbing you.

Phantoon has no reaction to Power Bombs (I just checked in the code). Also, nowhere in his entire AI bank is a single reference to Samus's energy. Nor has he ever shown any reaction to power bombs in the game, nor is there anything in his attacks that has any reason to kill Samus in one hit. There is no apparent cause for the glitch you're claiming.

As for the version, It was the console version, and it happened about a year ago. I can tell you that it should be the NTSC version. It just happens to be players choice in case anyone is wondering.

Now, It happened people, I don't know why but it did. That weird SOB ate Samus.

Ridley grabs you right as he's dying, like it's part of his death cut scene. I've Murder Beamed him, stood there and didn't shoot. Suddenly, Ridley stopped flashing from getting hit, didn't have explosions on his tail, swooped down, grabbed Samus, and then squawks one last time before falling apart. It's happened nearly every time to me.

That? That's part of his programming, one of the two ways he can die. It's also common, since the other method takes longer for Ridley to die. It doesn't have anything to do with Phantoon spontaneously one-hit killing Samus.

Kejardon, If the power bombs don't effect Phantoon, then maybe it has something to do with staying in Morph ball form.

If its not in the code, Im sorry, I dont know how to explain it.

I swear to you I'm not lying, this game is full of weird s***.

Hmmm... yeah, these are the only possiblities I can think up:

1) Samus got sucked into some infinite damage loop that for some reason or another locks her coordinates exactly with phantoon.
2) Phantoon's AI script for some reason, loads Ridley's AI script instead, and somehow is able to conform to his sprite.
3) Magical game fairies entered your cartridge and made it do weird things of awesomeness that's so crazy it boggles the mind.
4) You're making shit up and talking out of your ass.
5) You were hallucinating.

I suppose the option I'm leading towards the most is 4, but wouldn't it be awesome if it really were 3?

Edit: On second though, I deleted this sentence, as that would be minimodding, and minimodding is bad >_<

The only reasonably thing that I can think of that he was exactly under Phantoon's "Mouth", and laid a bomb, so he bomb-jumped "inside" Phantoon. When he was in the "Core", (Exactly where the eye is), Phantoon made his ultimate attack, spitting a nice spiral of blue thingies. Samus was exactly on 31 Energy, so the beeping wasn't activated and the player thought that Samus had full health. Then when the blue thingies hit Samus, she died instantly because as far as I know, one blue thingy takes 31-33 energy, and as far as I know, 31 substracted from 31 is 0... Kej, correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, if you want me to... The fireballs do 20 damage if Samus has the Varia equipped.
Although it is possible to get hit by multiple objects at once. If the spiral started exactly when Samus was on top of Phantoon's eye, you could probably manage to lose up to 160 energy. He said he was below Phantoon's eye though, and had full health, which I'm guessing is at least 200 energy.

On the topic of massive damage, I managed to get Samus to lose 400 energy in a *single* frame, with the Gravity Suit equipped. XD
