Green Gate glitch without running!

Have I discovered something?

I was messing around trying to get the green gate glitch to work. And I thought... There has to be an easier way.

Looks like there is.

I got Samus's knee about 2 pixels from the gate, jumped up while aiming with R, and pressed left while firing.

It may have to be analyzed to know exactly what I did, but I was able to do it much more than I ever could the old way. In fact... I've never been able to do it the "old way". laugh new

Oh Yeah! :D I was able to do this multiple times. After a bit more practice it looks like you need to fire before her head gets to the top of the ceiling.

Now the question is if the same technique can be applied to the gates facing the opposite way. That would be awesome, though unlikely.

Great find, that's very interesting..! Can't see it being used as a speed trick though, maybe it'll be useful for someone who wants to do a no-run button run, the Noob Bridge is already covered, this is a fine addition :D

Can't get Icebeam without the run button.

Anyway, I thought I heard somewhere that the only reason Green Gates couldn't be opened from the left is that there were none in the game that had enough running distance in front of it, but since nobody is jumping up and down with joy, I take it there isn't any truth to this rumor. Still a cool find though.

It has been known for quite a while but it's nice that you found it yourself.

You can beat the game without the Ice Beam while getting through and across a bunch of places would require a great deal of bomb jumping.

Can't get through the mochtroid room in Maridia without it or speedbooster, though. And even if you could escape the speed booster chamber without run, you wouldn't be able to use it!

Yess mochtroid room is gg, can't do it without ice beam or plasma/ice 'go-through-a-grey-door' and skip botwoon either.

Ah! Of course not... I've just always had trouble doing that while running towards the gate. Either I was getting too close to the gate, or perhaps I wasn't close enough.... I'll never know.

So this (for me) was way way easier. I did look on the videos page and didn't see it... So that was my main motivation for making this topic. But apparently...

I remember doing this on accident about 7 years ago and I didn't even know what the green gate glitch was. I shouted "WHOA!"

Well you only need a momentum of 1 (two frames of air movement) and press Aim Up and Shoot at the right frames. If you done it a bit lower you would actually see the super missile go through the gate. And you would not want to shoot at high as catnap222 done in his video

It might take me 3 or 4 tries before I usually get it. When I made that smv - I must've really had the feel for it. :P

Try watching it in slo-mo (press the ' - ' minus key) and maybe have the input display on also (the ' , ' comma).

Edit: ...eh, just in case you didn't know about those I thought I'd mention it. Maybe you already know...? :-? *shrugs*

okay, if this can be applied from both the left and right sides, then why can't this be abused to enter maridia from the wrong side?

It can't be used to enter right facing gates. Kejardon said that aiming up and to the left gives your shot a big boost in positioning, but not when you aim up right, this is why it won't work on right facing gates. (unless you have tremendous speed)
