Best game ever = Super Metroid
I don't have videos for proof right now for I have no EMU controller that I can play SM with and record. I do however still play on my snes. Back in the day my old 100% record was at like 5:30.. now I've cut it down to 1:18 H:M with 100% items.

Do you think that is pretty decent, average, or above average. I only ask because I am not post ya'll a video if it's not worth watching. I will however try to give ya'll one soon. ( Yes ya'll I am from south texas. )

Servin' you realness!!
It's definitely well ABOVE average when comparing it with the entire Super Metroid playing population.  Most Super Metroid players are absolutely baffled with a completion time under 2 hours, regardless of %.
1:18 100% isn't the best time on M2K2, but it's better than alot of the people here and something to be proud of.
There's no way to know for sure, but imho it's in the top 1/10th of 1 percent.

Ok thank you. That's what I figured but I wanted to get a second opinion from my fellow metroid freaks. I will try to get a video up soon, but not 100% sure when that will be. :( I've been dying to record one of my runs.

Yeah, I'd say that's really good based on what knowledge I have of 100% Super runs. Seeing as 55 minutes was the record for a while (not sure what it stands at right now), and my personal best for 100% is 2:12, (although that's basically my ONLY real attempt at doing one) I'd say that's pretty awesome.

I average about 1:13 for 100% runs, record is just over 1 hour.  Can't seem to break the 1 hour barrier.

You know, despite Super Metroid being my favorite game of all time and me loving to watch other people speedrun it, I can never get my self to do it. I always end up screwing around with weird routes and tricks and waste too much time in the end. Even then, I usually finish the game in under two hours, so I don't know how good I really am at the game. Confused

You're good IMO considering the average time for an average player is roughly 3-7 hrs..

I'd say the average for regular players of the game is between 1:00 and 1:30.  I sit right in the middle, and am usually between 1:10 and 1:20.

Definitely not, since we have our very own Behemoth, who is the world record holder for the PAL version - 0:52 (working on a faster, segmented run - first few segments on his channel).  Others are waiting in the wings for Hotarubi's crown on the NTSC version too.

Not that Hotarubi can't beat RedScarlets record, but if he does I quit. She is the reason I grinded to learn everything I know now..even with her :58 min run.. :P Ok JK about the quitting but that would hurt. :(

My name is 4N6/Forensics.
He didn't just beat her record he crushed it by 5 minutes in a Single Segment but, he never submitted it to SDA. My brother (Snuffit86) and I plan on crushing his record by 3-4 minutes. I'm doing a Segmented Run while hes going Single Segment.

From what I remember, he was going to submit, but wasn't happy with his run, as he was confident that another minute could be knocked off.  Regardless, for all intents and purposes, the record stands at 0:50.  This is over two and a half years old, though, and could easily be beaten nowadays.

Wow, pretty damn good,I can't seem to break the 1:00 barrier ethier, if I learned a bit more and stuff about ASM and become a good "professer of knowledge" based upon SM, I could, probably get a high % and lower time, Based on how the game runs, you have certain parts where you can go in, but can't go out you all probably know this, but yeah, if you wanna set the best record all you gotta do is learn all the tricks, shortcuts and hints on where the items, rooms that are "1 way", and the "Murder beam"(in which case helps ALOT! at ridley) Then you can probably get below the average of 1:00.

Sorry, if it is too big

That is a difficult barrier to overcome.

Murder beam is never used nowadays.  The trick to cracking your time down is to load the game in an emulator, and save just as you enter a room.  Once you've got your save, try running through the room, then try doing it again, and then again.  Once you've done that, do it another few hundred times, and you'll be reaching the right level.  Add to that all of the latest tricks, such as the huge Metroid skip, and you'll be nearing the record.

Would playing the game tons of times over the course of many years count towards that experience? I'd think through pure repetition like that you'd probably get the same kind of memorization of some of the rooms at least. Maybe not as much as you would need for the world record, but still good to get a run time on the lower end of the spectrum I'd like to think.

Servin' you realness!!
I've played through the game a couple of times using save-state abuse at the entry to each room, and even a few times within each room.  The final time is never something I really consider since the run isn't really valid, it's just a practice/learning type of run.  Hell, it's practically a TAS.  Nowadays I only use a savestate when trying to learn a new trick or if I have to stop playing for a while.  I bet I could break the 1 hour/100% barrier if I abused save states like that.

The difference becomes apparent when you get into the more minor details within each room.  For example, upon entering the very first room in Zebes, most players perform a jump to get atop the first land mass, then run left, negotiating the platforms as they move down toward the next door.  The current top players hit only one ledge on the way to the bottom of that shaft.  General run experience, gained from numerous runs of the game will often see you using the same moves you've probably always done - including slower methods- whereas the more in-depth trial and error of save states and replays enables you to choose the optimum way to negotiate each room.  Watching the best current runs, you'll see tonnes of these moves used in almost every room.
