If there isn't any midnight releases anywhere, then we'll probably just get up and be at gamestop when they open (10am I think).

But yeah a midnight release would be really awkward for a pokemon game I think, the clerk would probably give us really weird looks >.<

Well then, if they do give you a weird look, then look them straight in the eye and say "Hey, at least I didn't come here for another FPS..."

Or just say to the children, loudly, "I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOUR POKéBALLS!"

Oh, this is hilarious given the conversation: As I'm reading this the tag at the top of the forum says "and the kids just love it!" which fits in perfectly.

But personally, I wouldn't care either way, because as long as I enjoy the game it shouldn't matter much if someone much older than what everyone believes to be the only audience the series has (So, elementary and middle school range) wants to buy them.

Middle school range is pushing it IMO. At least when I was in middle school it was looked at as a very uncool thing to play, but my friends and I still played it anyway.

Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
My only real gripe with the current games is the same as I've always had.  Not being able to catch all of the Pokemon in one game.  I wouldn't mind if it meant you had to do a second playthrough, or even backtrack after the final battles.  For people that do not know anybody with a DS that would play the game, it's a fairly big grumble.

Maybe it was just me then, because I don't remember really getting to that point until I entered high school. I was 15 in my freshman year, which was ahead of most of the other students, so in some ways you're right I guess. Either way, around the time everyone becomes a teenager is around the absolute maximum target range based on what I've understood about how people view the series.

And yeah, while that is definitely a great marketing strategy by Nintendo because it forces those who really want to catch them all like the old days to either have to buy another copy of the game, another copy of the system, or know someone who has it as well, it can be a real pain for those who have loyally followed the series since it came out. Especially now that there's no Stadium equivalent where you can just dump all of the ones you want to save there and either trade them to another version that you own or start the one you have over again in order to get the other exclusives that you miss from the choices you made.

Servin' you realness!!
I think I was already past high school when the poke-craze happened.  By then I reacted pretty much the same way as the adults.  What the fuck ARE those things?  Seriously?  Gotta catch them all?  Why?  I don't get it.

Southpark has an emmy award winning episode where the kids experience a new japanese toy craze called chin-pokomon.  The adults' reaction in that episode is flawless.

That's probably what it is then, because in 1998 to 2001 I was still in middle school and that's about when the games and the craze was at its peak, and I specifically remember someone I knew bringing in the guide to the lunch table and showing everyone, which was my first exposure to the series. I didn't get it completely at first either when I saw that, until one day my brother and I ended up buying Red and Blue because of everything we'd heard and seen from our friends.

And the Americans try to ban them, until the Japanese start saying "You American - big penis" *makes gesture* "We Japanese - small penis" *makes gesture*.  Americans: "Well, when you put it like that..." laugh new

I loved the Pokemon series from the outset.  I wasn't sucked in because of the monster thing, but more because it was an RPG with 150 playable characters.  I couldn't have asked for more. Dancing

The devolution (c wot i did thar) of the Pokemon franchise has been to shift the focus within the games from almost exclusively the pokemon themselves to the various characters.
Also, way too many monsters and techniques.

the focus is on the characters in the new games? could have fooled me ... seems like they're about the pokemon more than ever.

I've a limited experience with Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, but that's how it seems to me. Also, too many useless legendaries.

Even Mewtwo was useless, as it was just the One Pokemans To Rule Them All. Legendary birds are where it's at. Well, just Zapdos.

Yeah, this isn't so bad now, but it doesn't feel the same trading with some random person as it does trading with people who are playing the game with you.  When I worked in retail, everybody in the store was caning the game (Red and Blue days), and we were all trading, and it was great because you knew they could be trusted, and everything was legit.

Also, my grumble would still apply, as you can't catch them in the one game.

EDIT: On an unrelated note, I was just reading an article on the latest Gamers' edition of the Guinness Book of Records, and it states that Wii Sports has now outdone Mario to become the biggest selling game ever.  What a crock of shit!  They ship it with every console, regardless of whether anybody's playing it, and include it in the count? Give the title back to Mazza, you evil-doers!  Grr...

Nah, it was just the one (of the few) that were mentioned in that particular article.  I checked it once, and it wasn't very good, as it was all about sales and stuff, and not the things the readers would actually be interested in such as time / score.

In the context when he is available for legitimate capture, yes.

Looks like I was wrong about another generation of recoloured animals Pokémon coming soon. Linkydink.
