That'd be the Miniboss theme. Iirc, Boss 1 is Ridley, the Torizo's and Draygon, and Boss 2 is Kraid, Phantoom and Crocomire. No, I never said it would make sense.

I think it's the Theme of Samus you're referring to.

As for me, I'll go with the Maridia tune which plays in the green, rocky area, which I think is #2. Second would be Norfair 2, and third would be "Planet Zebes ~ Arrival on Crateria", the incredibly dark and atmospheric tune (by Snes standards anyway) you hear when you initially land on Zebes.

i must say that i love every single song in super metroid.. and metroid fusion. i do LOVE green brinstar (brinstar 1) and the red brinstar (Brinstar 2) but i just cannot choose my favorute one becuase i love them all so much.

the theme of samus is a good song too.. i like the wrected ship and Mardia 2 (yellow), i think it is better than mardia 1 (purple) but i love them both.

and finally.. i think the worst song in the game is the loading theme lol, when you load it up and smaus has electric over her lol, i like the item room song though.. i think it is kinda... "whats gonnabe there?" and the mother brain song is a great song becuase i'm sure in the original metroid.. you just fight the brain in the tank.. then torian blows up.. but when the brain had a body i thought omg, then the music came on and i'm like.. "I'm Gonna Die!" and i did lol

Heck yeah with the Red Brinstar. A lot of the music on this game comes out all muted and muddy thanks to bad technology or something, but that one comes out fine. But really, it doesn't matter, that track just rocks.

In that case, is it bad that the five best video game soundtracks I've heard are all for SNES or Genesis?

I've always liked alot of the music in SM. But my particluar favorites would have to be going from crateria to the wrecked ship (The theme of Samus apparently). Also the area of Maridia where you enter from the glass tube.

Well... Ridley/Escape is on there...
It is under <b><i>Boss Type 1</i></b> and if you where looking for Kraid music then thats Boss Type 2.

Brinstar 2 FTW. This song got me into Metroid and when they remade it in Echoes I almost wet myself.

Boss 1 comes in a close second though. (I can play it on guitar too :D)

Embarrasing Fact: Power suit made by lowest bidder

I have to agree with Spine Shark, the best music is the music that best fits the intsruments and quality available.
There are songs I listen to in NSF format just because they sound good in that format. I can't see people remixing most of the Gauntlet soundtrack with much success (and I dare anyone to try remixing the gameplay music that starts out like the title screen music... :P)

Now, to actually respond to the first post... I'd have to pick Samus's theme. Which isn't an option. Meh.
Honestly, I can't say I much cared for the music in Super Metroid. It's good, but nothing I would put on a playlist.

I believe I may have said this somewhere else, but I've always liked the Ridley/Escape music the most out of all Metroid music, so that's saying something. I love the music in the Metroid series, but this one has stodd out as my favorite for quite a while now.
