Why am I so amazing?
I believe 1:07 is the current fastest recorded 100% for SM, although goodness knows I've been wrong before. The pros think that sub-1 hour is possible though.

Well, they've had a number of years to try with no results yet.  I've seen a 55 minute game before, but not at 100%.

Yeah, but there's been new stuff discovered reciently that they wouldn't have been able to do in all those years.

I believe the record for an any% run is 43 minutes.  100% I think is 1:03 by Smokey.  I'll go find out...

Just recently? Wow, that's cool.  I didn't know there were people still trying to break that game.

Not reciently as in just yesterday reciently, but it was only... what, a few months ago that it went from 15% minimum to 14% minimum?

The fastest 100% speed run (proven VIA ZSNES movie) is Smokey, with 1:02.

The fastest any % is 42-43 minutes (also proven via ZSNES movie) which was preformed by Smokey.

Is Smokey's 1:02 ZSNES movie available for download somewhere?

Smokey's run was really something. Hard to beat I guess, but not impossible. Some new stuff there I've never seen before. :D

Wow, I have completely rediscovered how awesome Super Metroid is. I finally decided to check out the Speed Runs from this site www.classicgaming.com/msr. I guess everyone here has already seen them. But I was blown away by them. I had no idea you could get the Wave Beam so early. That really cuts off a lot of time. And I love the use of the Shine Spark. (a technique I never mastered sadly. It was a bit easier in Fusion)

After watching all those videos I feel like I have taken the game for granted. I got Super several years ago and played the game to death. Heck, I still think it's one of the finest games ever made. But I was never able to complete the game in such a short period of time. I think 1:55 was about my best time. And that was with 60% items. Getting all of them would have taken me a little more than 4 hours.lol:
But now I feel pumped and ready to take on this game once again.

Gotta practice that shinespark.

Not so. An old friend (who turned stupid recently) gave me a zmv of him beating smokey's time by 3 minutes. He did it in 40 minutes flat.

I wish I still had that zmv or the image of him beating it. I'd love to at least be able to prove what I saw :P

Am I the only one having problems with the movie file of Smokey's 0:41 30% run?
I unzipped the files, everything's in the same folder, I'm using ZSNES 1.36, the ROM is named metroid3.smc; in other words, I've followed all instructions.  I'm not messing around with the speed toggle or anything.
The weird part is, the movie goes out of sync almost immediately--resulting in Samus not obtaining the morph ball or missiles--but certain events AFTER that seem to be IN sync.  Any suggestions?

Man, makes me wish I got into Super Metroid earlier. So damn cool.

I've experienced the same problem; except that it goes out of sync during the Torizo fight; according to the movie the Torizo should be dead, but according to the game it's not.  This results in Samus trying to move as though she's out of the room, while the Torizo kills her.  The other movies desync at certain points too.  I've come to the conclusion that it'll probably only work with the exact same ROM version that the maker was using.

Well, perhaps you're running too much background programs, and your computer isn't able to keep up.

If that isn't the case, I suggest you try to find another rom.

My rom works just fine ;)

No, I'm not running any other programs at all...  Ah well.  I'm still not tired of watching the Radix 100% Prime Run--but that's a topic for another section.

The problem is that his version of ZSNES is different than yours. Either that, or the evil monkeys from Final Fantasy MCMXVIII ate your shoe. That...could be the case.

Go to his site for more specifics.

Oh, weasel, people would get a kick of that video, if you could find it...

My fastest it 1:26 100%

:-) So proud...tied for 8th in the world!

It's not as impressive, but my 1:06 100% video on the console is on this site...and I just now finished recording a 1:03 100% on video and will send to Nate soon.

Again, it's no 1:02, but it'll do me for now.

BTW how do I get an avatar thing in the corner?  Question

Go to your profile, and go to the bottom of the page. You'll find the Avatar Control Panel there. I think the options are clear enough to figure them out on your own once you get there. :P
