http://www.metroid2002.com/3/speed_tricks_early_wrecked_ship_break-in.php

Shows you how to get into the wrecked ship without a grappling beam.

http://rapidshare.de/files/9065507/no_grapple_or_boots.wmv.html

Shows you how to get into the wrecked ship with only the grappling beam no spineshark. I did the trick with the high jump boots but it's MUCH easier without them (ironic). I can jump onto the missiles in the previous room, but any jump from samus to try to get outside just cannot cut it so the grappling beam is a must. If you can somehow retrieve the grappling beam without the speed boots or anything there-in this could be useful to you.

Edit, I found this hehe.

I('d) like to watch (some MP3 runs)
You can also horizontal bomb jump right after getting Super Missiles.

Isn't that somewhat rather difficult?

I don't think I've ever been able to bomb jump more than 6 times.

Is there a certain rhythm?

bomb jumping is all about a rhythm

I remember first seeing bomb jumping on the demos then trying it and thought it was awesome and opened new sbing options (keep in mind I couldn't wall jump at this time).  A long time later I found out about dbj and attempted it without success.  After a while of practicing, I managed to get a few consective ones.  DBJing is still really hard to get multiple ones at a time.

I still laugh at the time when I could consistantly dbj higher than I could consistantly wall jump.

Seeing kej's bomb jumping vid amazed me alot.  Still can't horizontal bomb jump

Horizontal bomb jumping requires something near frame perfection.  I haven't heard of anybody who could do more than a few on a console... and as you saw, only a few won't get you far.

Actually, I only recall Smokey's 14% taking one diagonal bomb jump to get over the lake, three bombs total in the successful attempt.  Of course, it still took a lot of tries.

Diagonal =/= horizontal.

Yes, but I believe the first post in this thread was referring to that specific spot.  Taking that together with "a few won't get you far", I'm saying that a few is all you need.  I'm not even sure if the distinction you're making really exists when you're only talking about one.  Basically it's a combination of horizontal and double; you're just placing one extra bomb, so that halfway through what would be the second horizontal set you're propelled forward again instead of returning to (right next to) your starting point.  Since this is the only additional bomb in the specific instance I'm describing, no further diagonal movement is made, only the same diagonal movement as is done to use up time between bombs in the horizontal jump.

That extra bomb is the distinction between horizontal and diagonal bomb jumping (and you are describing diagonal *exactly*).  I've seen a dbj over the moat, but what  I'm saying is that pure horizontal bjing will take ages and is probably far too difficult.  Moot point, seeing as how you can just dbj over, but I'm anal about this stuff.
