on the way to the speed booster.. it's faster to get the wave beam now then it is to get with the grappler... Theres nothing in that room of any other use, may as well get it now as it'll tear through mobs alot faster anyways.

He was posted the "intended" route through the game.  AKA the way most people take their first time playing.

That requires a wall jump.

If you'd read his post, you'd know the point of the route JaggerG listed is that there's a route that does not require the use of any "secret" or "hidden" moves. There are obviously a lot of routes that are faster than the one he listed, and there's no need to mention any of them here.

I'd point out a couple things about JaggerG's route:

Getting the spazer before getting hi-jump boots also requires a wall jump or bomb jumping, so that should come later in the "intended" route.

This is a bit more subjective, but my view of the "intended" route has you entering the "useless" section of Maridia through the elevator from Crateria and making your way to the map room. Having the map data and seeing a previously busted tube along that route are supposed to make make the light bulb go off in your head about busting the entrance tube open.

Yes, I'd agree that the implication is pretty clear that you're to leave the Wrecked Ship to the right and go through that earlier part of Maridia.  I've always been disappointed that there's nothing to get around there and thus no reason to go once you know about the tube.  And yes, the Spazer should come after the High Jump.  As I recall, bomb jumping doesn't work there (unless it's started in midair, I suppose) because the block you'd start from breaks from the first bomb; it's the same problem I had when I thought, like carlmmii, that I had to go up the red shaft after the noob bridge instead of down and tried to bombjump up there.

Quote from DeathNoble:
Unless you're going after a 100% completion game, then the walljump is needed due to the fact that there's a Power Bomb expansion in there.

Nope.  I've almost always bombjumped up there.

Also, once you've returned to Norfair after Ridley's defeat, I don't think there's a specific way to get back, e.g., through Brinstar rather than Maridia.

Is there any specific obstacle along that route for which you need the Wave Beam, or is it just for convenience in getting back into green/pink Brinstar (which you might never do if you're going through red Brinstar or Maridia to the surface)?

Hey hey hey that's not my baby. Blame Deathnoble.

I just said you don't need complex bomb jumping or uall jumping to beat the game. You also don't need super jumps.

I also can't think of a good excuse to mention "Golden Chorizo."

Yeah, I listed the route.  And my bad on the Spazer before High Jump.  I've been walljumping for it long before I ever stumbled across M2K2.  Ah well, i'll edit that after this post.

And i was trying to list a route through the game with no MockBall, Bomb Jumping, or Walljumping.  Although I'm pretty sure (iirc) that that single PB tank above the Etecoons is the only thing keeping folk from a 100% No walljump/bomb jump/glitch game.

Although, The Etecoons teach you the walljump, just as Dachora teaches you the Superjump...  And if you're doing no superjump, then there's really no 100% game...

*gets lost in ponderance*

You could always wait until after getting space jump for that one item.  That's what I always did back when I was really bad at the game.

It's just for convenience. In fact, I believe the only obstacle in the game that's supposed to require the Wave Beam is a wrong-way blue gate in pink Brinstar guarding an energy tank.

Also, it's possible to start a bomb jump from a crumbling block. You just don't get the chance to mess up.

Apologies for the misattribution, JaggerG and DeathNoble.

True, space jump and mid-air morph will get you those p-bombs.  Heh, it's been so long since I've played an 'intended route' game that I'd almost forgotten what the right order was.  Kinda fun remembering the days I used to suck at SM.
