I have seen seen one of MASTER-88's liked videos today, which is a PAL any% run of Prime.

http://www.youtube.com/user/wgtan01

This guy is absolutely insane and uses speedtricks that i have never seen before, like new dashes just made for PAL. He is saved in Magmoor with a time of 15 minutes, whereas in the 1:09 run, the time in Magmoor is 16 minutes.

I find it hard to believe, that a guy whose name was never seen before is so incredibly good!

I noticed, that on File A, he has 98% , with a time of 1:22 on Tallon Overworld.
In addition to that, judging from his r-jumping style (you can see him doing an r-jump in the beginning of segment 5), i believe that this could be pirate109, but i have not seen him active for years.

You should definitely check that speedrun out, it is very very good. If he continues to use new tricks in every segment, he should be able to beat the 1:09, although it would be extremely hard. I never believed that beating the 1:09 could be possible... until today...

I laughed hard.

But I'm always down for watching a new Prime speedrun.

getting there...
C'mon guys... No need to belittle the poor guy. That's the last thing this relatively small scene needs.

The Prime series always seems to heat up during the summer time. I can't wait to see how this turns out, even though I'm more of an NTSC man myself.

Lol. Thanks for the kind words. I can almost definitely get 1:08, since I am 33 seconds faster than Stefan at this point (saved in main quarry) and the Ridley fly-by skip will save a further 22 seconds. Unfortunately, he indicates in his comments on the 1:09 that it's a very high 1:09 (not sure if he is joking when he says it is genuinely 1:09:59...). This makes 1:07 hugely unlikely, probably out of the question entirely.
I've just added descriptions to the youtube vids with brief comments on each segment so far and how they match up to Stefan's corresponding segments.

very cool.  looks great so far.  guess you'll have to change your name to Pirate108 when you're done!

Ha! :D

Seriously, amazing work though. And great to see you too are still kicking this thing today.
Actually yeah, I'm a PAL player so your runs were always THE reference for me, and I never said anything but...  yeah, great work, dude. Then, and yet again. I cannot WAIT to see the rest!

Extremely high-quality running here. I'll admit that when I first started watching I thought it was a TAS!

He's about halfway through and has about 38 seconds on the best time, so he's not far off.
But I have a feeling 22 seconds will be hard to chip away at.

Also, in watching I remember just how different PAL is to NTSC. I think I like this run more than NTSC.

Fly-by skip is probably impossible on PAL. I have talked with pirate109 about that, and he thinks it might be the case, too. So, no reason to ">_>". ;)
He will get 1:08 without it, though.

Yeah, I didn't think too much on it before, but it seems that no one has actually ever had the ridley glitch happen on PAL. I just assumed no one had been patient/lucky enough yet, since I know it took a very long time for Zoid to get it on NTSC. Of course, this might still be the case. It's just difficult to find motivation to wait for it without knowing that it's possible.
Either way, I still have 8 more segments to improve on Stefan's 1:09 by 15 seconds. At the current rate, I'll do it "easily".

i think it's pretty overstated how random it actually is.  if you watch one of the videos where it's done and just copy what it does (the final plasma shot is obviously important, the other shots may or may not be), you can probably get it every 20-30 minutes or something (assuming it's possible on PAL of course).  20-30 minutes is a very long time  but the segment is pretty easy so hopefully it won't take too many fly-by skip successes to get a good segment.  maybe you could pull off 1:07!

Yeah I have tried copying successful videos quite a lot already. Back in 2005 when I did my 100% I spent many hours waiting for it with no luck. I did it some more earlier today, and plenty of times I hit him with the extra plasma shot and he flinched just like in the video where the skip happens. But then he just flew off anyway. If you think it should happen every 20-30 minutes then it doesn't look too hopeful for PAL.
By the time I'm at ridley I should be able to figure out if it will be the difference between 1:07/08. Then I can just ditch it or try some more.

I find it weird that they would fiddle with something like that, but i guess it's pretty status quo for this game.  oh well, hopefully it doesn't come into play!  it doesn't sound like it will for 1:08 at least.

they probably never knew. it was probably due to the extensive changes to ridley in pal, an unintended consequence.

one final test would be someone who has done the trick to try in both versions to see if it is really impossible. the timing could be different.

Wasn't able to post for a while (Internet Explorer :( ). Anyway sorry for not answering your PM Pirate but it seems you figured out that using IS was only to avoid thardus dash in my single segment run. Great to see an optimized run, a bit disappointing to see you easily chop of time from all of my segments. Still a little bit pride left since you didn't beat one of them...and yeh my time is 1:09:59. I had a final segment actually a couple of frames faster ending up in 1:10. Think if you really go for it and include that ridley skip you can get 1:07 but this should be good for now. So, what about my 22% run, in my opinion it is relatively easier to beat than the 1:09.

Oh hey there. I really want to tell you how much I appreciate your run. After I watched it in detail I noticed so many small speed tricks and ideas you came up with that I didn't use in the 1:11. You're a really crafty player lol. Little things that nobody else noticed; one would be shooting the ice door from afar in the room after frigate crash site to avoid having to unmorph/remorph. Also, in hall of the elders in part 7 where you jump up to the bomb slots before killing the ghost, so you don't have to do it afterwards. I honestly feel bad stealing them all... I was just bored and I enjoy trying to optimise segments.
As for 1:07, it's not happening now. Maybe if I started a new run it would be in reach, assuming the ridley skip is possible (unlikely). Still, it would probably take me over a year to truly perfect each segment, what with the many random elements.
I considered trying to beat your 22% run. Then I remembered how difficult it is to even complete a 22% game, and I didn't particularly like the prospect of trying to do a really well-done speed run in 22% conditions. After this run, it's more likely that I'll try a SS any% run for the first time.

Alright, I just finished with 1:08. Will upload the final parts soon and contact someone about submitting to SDA. I've also done audio commentary using my laptop's built-in mic, hope the sound quality is good enough.

about the audio commentary, we don't really care about the quality. people don't have to listen to it if they don't want to.
