I had this nice idea I'm not sure you'll like or so but I'd find it pretty entertaining. It's some kind of a game, where one person sets a challenge and other people try to do it, like a trick in Super Metroid that has to be done in real time. The person who sets a challenge has to post smv of himself doing it the way intended and other people would post smv of themself doing the same. What do you think?

For example if I'd set a challenge like this: Do a CWJ in real time, doesn't matter where, but no rerecords or slowdown is allowed.

We had something like this over FinMetroid regarding ZM and I thought to show what would you think about the idea. :)

This does indeed sound fun. There's a huge problem though: You're encouraging users to upload a bunch of files to the forum. It's also too pointless to justify it.

Even though I do hope BioSpark someday puts up a video of a single-segment 1% Fusion run. >_>

Oh.  So THAT'S a CWJ.  I always just called it a walljump without pressing back.

Already did one on console, and you'll be able to see it whenever nate gets around to updating the site.

He will.

How about if everyone would upload the smv's at dehacked microstorage and post links here? I guess that's ok with mods and admins?

So anyone up for the challenge? ;) Record smv of yourself doing CWJ in real time without any rerecords. I think it would be ok if the first one "matching" the challenge would get to set the next one, etc.

Upload smv's there.

Done.

I thought of doing gauntlet with no E-tanks and such as a good challange but it's probably better to begin with something easier.
So the new challange is to get up to gauntlet with walljumps (or ibj if you would like I guess)

Yeah...I rather not. Exactly how impossible would that be unassisted...a few undred consecutive non heightgaining bomb jumps in a row with no margin for screwups...

Have done all of these (I did the ibj to the gauntlet)

I have a very nice challenge for you. Try to get up the lava lake to Lower Norfair while having the Gravity Suit on, but without Space- and Gravity Jump. IBJ is allowed. :)

That is so easy. I can't/don't want to make videos. I can also do it without Gravity.

One nice challenge is:

Try get X-ray scope without Hi jumps & without ice beam and of course without grapple beam.

I get X-ray scope without Hi jumps but i still need that ice beam, because i suck bomb jumps. Still W/O hi jumps only was bit hard, took me while.

W/O ice & hi jumps must be very hard. But definitely possible if you are good enought bomb jumper.

Waaaaaaa i want insanity
I think I uploaded a video showing that not long ago.
Anyway, I'll do it again.

Oh and whoever is going to horizontal bomb jump to the gravity chozo statue.
GOOD LUCK grin new

Whenever someone says "Without such and such items" does that mean without having them equiped to use, or not having them at all?

For instance: the (Picky?) Golden Torizo statue in LN that won't drain the acid unless you have the Space Jump.  I'm sure this situation would call for a different strategy in game-play...  If it's not impossible.

Sorry I don't have anything to contribute to this topic, but I was just wondering about that.  Sounds like a SM game of horse -if you ask me.  :P  Fun and interesting.

I'd like to see (although I probably couldn't do it myself) a Mockball into an elevated tunnel that is in a wall without a lower surface in which to land on and roll into...  I hope that makes sense.  Sorry for not making an avi or smv of it myself first.  Embarassed  *me is bad*

Though that would quite possible require almost (if not totaly) perfect frame timing.

I always mean without having them at all (otherwise it wouldn't make sense). You wouldn't be stuck in LN without Space Jump since you can just go to Ridley and skip Golden Torizo.

What Cpadolf said. Such holes are nearly impossible to mockball into on console, because your jump height and horizontal position must be pixel perfect before the mockball, and of course the timing to do it as well.

You guys underestimate speedrunners. :P

Gaius challenge - mockball into hole in a wall

Saturn challenge - Up the lava lake with Gravity suit, no space- or gravity jump

Master challenge - Getting X-Ray without grapple- or ice beam or high-jumps

All of these are, of course, done unassisted without any help from rerecords or slowdown/frame advance. Saturn your challenge is one son of a bitch. Master, yours was pretty easy, and the Gaius one too. Where did you come up with the "impossible hole mockball" thing? I think that wasn't so impossible.

Our next challenge is right here. Have fun. ;)

I have actually never tried it, I just assumed it would be next to impossible, apparently it was not. I'll probably take on the ridley challange sometime later today.

EDIT:Okay I did the fight right away Wink  Wasn't really hard with that much equipment though.

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1067165535/Ridley-vs-Cpadolf.smv

But the fight itself look really bad, Since I have been TASing so much I'm really unused to playing. Also I have my really werid TASing button config.

I like this topic. Very, very much.

All right, not sure if it's possible in realtime, but it's at least theoretically possible. Defeat the Bomb Torizo--from entering the room to exiting--without ever touching the floor or landing on top of the statue. No items beyond morph and missiles allowed.

Oh, and did Cpadolf's and Master88's challenges. Still working on Saturn.

Ok. I have a few questions. 1) how do you get bombs and from there remain in air (probably by wall jumping). 2) how do you defeat torzo (is he weak to bombs or do you unmorph shoot a missile, morph, and countinue bomb jumping). If somebody does this, I would love to see it (along with the hbj to GS Chozo).

Ducknerd, thats definitely possible in realtime but even if someone dedicated a lifetime to playing Super Metroid, I don't think they'd be able to do it.  laugh new

...

*Everyone looks at Hotarubi*

Just kidding.  It would be pretty awesome to see though, I propose we compile a list of CRAZY tricks like this, and put them all in their own topic.

My trick:  Walljump to the top of the brinstar shaft without landing on any flat surfaces except the elevator at the top, or using the walls (excluding the two vine things that stick WAY out, those count as platforms)

You're allowed to kill all the enemies.

As for my challenge, get the Maridia Mainstreet missile while suitless. I'll post an smv later, probably not until tomorrow though.
