Servin' you realness!!
Castlevania 64 was such a piece of crap that the series never really tried to go 3D again. 3D gaming has come a long way since then, I don't know why it took them so long to try again with this series. This one is slated for winter of 2010 and promises to get back to the action-based roots of the series with less RPG elements.  The voice acting sounds good, and the story is compelling - you have to collect pieces of the God Mask to resurrect your murdered wife.  The gameplay appears to be heavily influenced by god of war, but that's fine by me since GoW is fucking awesome.

Why am I so amazing?
You're forgetting about Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness, the 2 3D entries since C64. But they're pretty forgettable, so I don't blame you.

I'm looking at this one with a skeptical eye. On the one hand, Kojima is involved. On the other hand, Kojima is involved.

On the one hand, Patrick Stewart. On the other hand, Robert Carlyle.

I am buying this.

Voice acting should never be taken into too serious of an account when judging a game. If the gameplay sucks, a group of pleasant voices will not make up for it.

Are you saying Robert Carlyle is a bad thing? Because if you are I kind of need to punch you.

No, but it's not good enough to save the game from being potentially bad.

I kinda just think of voice acting as something that better not suck - rather than something that's really gonna make a game better.  If you're gonna add it then it's either gonna ruin the game or not, but it never adds a whole lot.

Robert Caryle is ten kinds of awesome. What I was saying is, for me, there's no reason not to buy it.

Castlevania
Great cast
Patrick Stewart's character is, I've heard, the narrator
Kojima Productions have, generally, made games I like

Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
As far as Patrick Stewart being the narrator is concerned: The trailer almost definitely confirms this.

Voice acting in general: I consider this a nice extra, along with graphics and music.  Gameplay first, and then the shiny stuff. Very Happy

Other 3D games: I loved the look of Lament of Innocence, but it just felt like it was never going anywhere...

Good voice acting is a perfectly valid reason to buy a game, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I'd pay sixty dollars to hear Patrick Stewart narrate Final Fantasy VII. Might actually play through a whole disc!

So you're saying I should suffer through horrible gameplay mechanics and possibly a terrible plot just for the voice acting? That doesn't sound entertaining at all...

Yeah, but Patrick Stewart's voice quality would be canceled out by however has Cloud's role. And that would happen in the first few minutes of the game...

Hey now, Lament was great. Haven't played Curse.

Time bomb set get out fast!
I'm definitely looking forward to this.  There are only two downsides: I really have no desire to get a PS3, and I don't like the fact that this game's supposed to be a reboot.  (How many God damned series do we need reboots of?)  But aside from that, count me in.  As far as I'm concerned, Castlevania's "3D curse" is just a lot of noise; I haven't played the 64 games yet, but I love the PS2 games, and Judgment was a dumb idea but lots of fun to play.

I wonder what Iga is up to while this is going on.  Hope it's the next 2D game.  All the ones for DS have been superb; there's enough time to get at least one more in while the system is still big.  (Just ask the Pokemon franchise, which is doing two generations on the same hardware for the first time.)

It's out, folks! I think I'm finally gonna get a PS3 for the occasion (I'd been waiting for that price drop). Who's got the game, and how is it?
