Yea I kinda figured that out to but I did this run with 57% differently then what I normally do. This time I used the Golden Torizo Glitch that gives you 700 energy 100 missles 25 super missles and 20 power bombs and all the upgrades of the game. The way that I made it through my ss 1:04 was basiclly picking up the same items as in the record run thats 32 minutes. Except I picked up 2 extra energy tanks an extra missle tank and an extra super missle tank. I think my total on the 1:04 ss run was like 30ish% I wanna say 37 but its been a long time I really dont know how much extra stuff I picked up using the record speedruns route.

Haha I spent so much time just showing my buddies various tricks and glitches... shinesparked through the first part of the gauntlet but it took like four tries to keep the charge from that upper-right area of the landing zone. I also wasted like fifteen minutes getting into a position where I could crystal flash for the super after spore spawn, but I'd never done it before and I felt pretty sly pulling it off. I basically only didn't do the super time-wasting pickups in the sand of Maridia, and I think missed something else in Brinstar somewhere. So I was missing a reserve, and had 210/45/50. I had just played through Other M maybe like a week ago, turned it off during that horrendous closing sequence in her ship, and I just needed a palette cleanser, ease the depression inherent in playing Other M.
All the lore stuff in that game is actually really cool, it's just... basically really awkward timing in the dialogue. Even what's being said isn't so bad - except the choice of the word "deleter".
But this isn't the place for that sort of talk.

Hehe, with a little wraparound glitch, you can do the whole gauntlet in one go. extra_smug

I'm familiar with the existence of the trick for sure (well, your mention of it brings it back into my mind), but I never did do it myself. I should have explored the SM section of the site for other fun things to show haha. I did end up popping in actually cause I couldn't get the crystal flash off, so I googled "crystal flash super metroid" and m2k2's page was the first result - I clicked it without even realizing where I was headed.
I guess you have to have used up reserve tanks too >_>

My current best time is 0:38. Still so far away from the world record. At least, I beat my own record :)

Yeah, the RBO is never that bad.  It's essentially three stages: Easy, long-winded health expansion - Bitch Ridley Fight - Easy rest of game. aiwebs_004

The Bomb that says it all .!..
Hi Guys, here is my latest attempt at a Savestate run. Ive managed to get the time to SUB 47 but I think this is very near the limit of my current skillset. There are still a few mistakes in this run, but I find doing these is great practice for console runs.

Any comments and feedback on this run will be greatly appreciated as I'm still still striving for SUB 55 in a SNES 100% SS run. The biggest problem that I am finding in doing this is getting out of the WS alive or with enough energy to do the shinespark up to the WS reserve tank. This is due to getting the Missile tank with a shinespark after beating Phantoon. I am wondering if I should go back to getting it first, so as to guarantee getting out alive. Or if the time saved from getting it after Phantoon is worth doing in a SS run, seeing as though this part of the run is about 20 to 25 mins in and a prick of a spot to die at.

The other problem I am having is that if you get bad boss patterns it can easily add an extra minute to your run. Which sucks but is part of doing SS I guess. Do you guys have any Idea on what to do If Draygon doesnt play ball right away and start spitting gunk. Or is there any way to make him start doing it on the first round after the initial swoop.

Cheers

Da hell wid you :)
If you're having trouble with having enough health for that final shinespark for the reserve tank (it's a valid issue I used to have too) then I'd say safely go and collect those missiles early before phantoon. You'll lose maybe as much as 5 - 7 seconds because of not doing a shinespark to collect them and the damage boosts coming back, but surviving this shit hole is main priority and above all completing runs is the main confidence booster for improving your time.

Draygon unfortunately is purely luck based whether you get a swoop or a gunk round after the initial swoop. It's probably dependent on what frame you hit him on the first swoop, which of course is almost completely outside of our ability to manipulate it. Just keep running, Draygon does behave eventually Evil or Very Mad

I'm going to say something, and you guys are going to disagree with it, but I have testing to back me up: collecting the missile before phantoon is 92 in-game frames faster than collecting it after.

Basically it breaks down like this:

going getting the missiles first takes 1409 frames to get to phantoon from the treadmill room, and then it takes 310 frames to get from the left WS super to the water room for a total of 1719 frames. Getting the missiles second takes 623 to get to phantoon from the treadmill room, and 1188 frames to get from the left super to the water room while collecting the missile, for a total of 1811 frames.

Of course, my assumption going into testing was that sparking and damage boosting would be faster than going in with the power off, and of course it is, so I suspect the time is lost from all the extra movement generated from going from the super to the missile, to the etank. In other words, while you can move faster along one route, it's a less efficient route than the other route. It's like how you can take back roads that cap out at 30 MPH and get to a place faster than if you took the main streets at 45 MPH.

That said, energy shouldn't be an issue as long as you're going for the etank before going to the top of WS. You'll have at least 4 etanks, so unless you're really messing up something, you should be fine for energy.

I did a small test and it suggests that getting the missile pack before Phantoon is around 40 frames slower. Though it could be a good option if you're going for consitency as it's not even one second. The shinespark option going for the missile before phantoon proved to be around 8 frames slower than jumping, but you would have to do very precise jumps to be faster than the shinespark, so for consistency it could be better to shinespark. I think i used the best strategie for both smvs, unless i forgot something. Let me know if this is the case.

Here are the results:

It seems i could have landed the Power Bomb when going for the Missile pack before fighting Phantoon some frames earlier, what means that going for that Missile pack after Phantoon is just half second faster than going before Phantoon. Honestly this is shocking for me cause i never tested this and thought it was much faster than just half second. This means that going for that missile pack earlier could be a great idea not only for a single segment run but even for a segmented run. That is because there's a bounce ball trick that takes a full tank of energy and saves, iirc, more than half second. The fight with Phantoon is a pain in the ass and we never know what he will drop, so you could in the end not beeing able to perform the bounce ball trick due to lack of health. Also, having more health for the fight with Phantoon could be interesting as you could risk more and have more confidence. I honestly would stick to getting the Missile pack before Phantoon due to these results, unless i'm missing something.
