It's a freeware game that borrows a lot from metroid and castlevania, but it's way more "non-linear" than the two, the game is very dificult too and have 8bit graphics (it simulates a MSX game).

a remake is coming for wii-ware, but i think it will be released only mid 2011 so...

No, the Wii version is not yet released.  The original La-Mulana was released in 2005.

I think it was released for Windows and now is being ported to Wii-Ware. Kind of weird and confusing though because I think most of Aeon's games are rom hacks or were built from them.

The speedrun used the original Japanese version (solely for the sake of saving reading time, I think) without hacks or emulators. I haven't played the game myself, and from watching the run and listening to UltraJMan, romscout, and RaneofSoTN's audio commentary, I wouldn't think that it would be my kind of game. But oh well, I might try it one of these days.
