I know that the teaser on the Japanese Metroid site is old news, but I have a question to ask:  Having not played or heard much about Other M, does it have anything to do with "experiencing from the Space Pirates' point of view"?  And if not, does this mean that there is a possibility of another Metroid title soon?

It has nothing to do with that.

Just as much as it means Dread will be released.

I imagine sitting through Other M's cutscenes is pretty close to what the Pirates experience when Samus shows up in their base.

I like turtles.
People really tend to accentuate the negative aspects of the game.  Samus really doesn't say "the Baby" all that much except in the beginning.

At least the gameplay makes up for it.  Mostly.  Although with every new title, it seems like the series is getting less and less Metroid-y.

i think it is pretty safe to assume that space pirate game is canned. even "dread" had more revealed before disappearing completely.

the last thing Nintendo would want to do is make another side story game now that their most recent "side story" was a complete sales failure (Other M doesn't really do anything to the main timeline other than damage Samus' perception to the public)
i'm guessing only a mainline game carrying the name "Metroid 5" and going forward after Fusion's setting would have any chance of making the series sell once again.

Servin' you realness!!
I say they stop experimenting and taking risks, and just get back to basics with Metroid. After the unprecedented success of the wii, they seem to have become over-confident with their outside-of-the-box think tanks.

I think that unless Sakamoto has gone completely, 100% senile, he'll still be able to notice the sales and general reception of Other M, and a return to basics is what we'll see.  No telling if it'll be Fusion basics or Super basics, though...

Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
The way I see it, and I've mentioned it numerous times already, is that the series need a massive 2D game, with ramped up graphics.  The popularity of Shadow Complex proved that it can be a huge hit, despite its graphical limitations.

Da hell wid you :)
A new 2D metroid would be definately the best thing for the series. I don't know if a 'return to basics' approach is altogether the best option though as that could could be the smell of a series stuck in the past. But as Quietus said and I agree is we need a 2D game with ramped up graphics. I'm all for inovation like a new story, New items and upgrades, new tricks and a new location but we definately need non linearity back. Also let's have samus be a bit muted next time and have the player make up their own mind as to what the hecks going on with her. I really liked how she is portrayed in the Prime games. She's quiet and doesn't appears to actually question much but you can still see she is human and has 'feelings'. Although I've never understood peoples perception that she was some kind of robotic killing machine in the old 2D games. As soon as I knew it was a human being behind the suit then I knew that there was some thought processes going on in there. Maybe even thoughts that were a hindrance to her job?... but she still kicked ass.

it is weird that nintendo never continued making 2D Metroids on DS since the system was very capable of handling them. castlevania continued to do okay with upgraded GBA assets.
with the new "3D" fad coming to 3DS, a 2D Metroid with 3D effects would look quite nice. let's hope that Nintendo and Sakamoto don't go all "3D 3D" and instead give 2D Metroid another chance (2D Mario was given another chance and look at it)
