There's lots of stuff that really should be on there but isn't. Like various items early, new boss startegies, and, most importantly, sections for skipping the major items.
If I were to make videos and descriptions for all the tricks, could they maybe be put up on the site?
What about the glitch/trick between 1:13 and 1:24 here?
I think that uses the same principle as the Gravity Jump. It's a little different though, and by that I mean much bigger. Edit 2: He also does the X-Ray Climb in that vid. He wall jumps on the door at 3:06, and the trick it self at 3:18.
Technically, it IS a gravity jump, just a really big one. From what I can tell, a Gravity jump is caused by Samus canging from "regular" gravity to "underwater" gravity during a jump, which is what's happenning here.
Quote from P.JMan:
Yes, if you could list all these tricks. I'll go ahead and make some SMVs for nate
I believe I can make videos without help, but thanks for the offer.
nate: About the videos as far as encoding goes (for most of the simpler ones (e.g. NOT gravityless Draygon), I'm just going to record off my SNES to a DVD, then encode the video using my new laptop-which-has-Windows-and-is-therefore-able-to-use-good-video-encoding-programs (like arni-chan =) )) how should I encode them for placement on the site?
Okay, thanks! And my fingers hit the keys in the wrong order without me noticing.
EDIT: As far as a page for Draygon suitless goes (necessary for skipping Gravity)I previously posted a couple smvs showing the important parts of the fight:
If someone wouldn't mind encoding these into videos as I don't know how to do so myself, that would be greatly appreciated.
As for the description on the page, maybe something like this:
(void of Draygon interrupting the CF and dropping Samus on the ledge)being grabbed by Draygon while Crystal Flashing (as seen in the video above) tricks the game into giving Samus one free shinesparkDraygon drops Samus after 60 button pressesSamus must be grabbed from the left in order to land on the ledge by the door(vid of end of Draygon fight and sparking up next room)hitting Draygon from the ledge requires luck more than anything elsetake care aiming your shinespark, as if you miss, you'll have to redo the Draygon fight
Also, video footage for Lower Norfair without Gravity can be edited out of Red Scarlet's NBMB segment 2. And that trick is explained far better with a video than words, so I see no need for a description.
And parts of segment 1 of her NBMB can be used for Maridia without Gravity/Grapple (I'll get exact times for those and for the LN entry tomorrow).
That leaves:
climbing red Brinstar without ice beamWrecked Ship moat without speedbooster/grappleMochtroid glitchtwo-round PhantoonSpore Spawn's Supers w/o CFmodifying the page on quick charge to talk about short chargea few more rooms in Maridia gravityless
A description for the zebetite skip with ice-beam:
Freeze the lower Rinka as soon as it spawns. Spin jump into the Rinka to gain some zero damage invincibility time. Spin jump onto the Rinka again and then do a normal jump through the Zebetite.
A description for the zebetite skip with the blue-suit
If you can keep the blue suit from Draygon up until the Zebetites, then there's an alternate method.
Duck to start flashing. Run under the little platform and do a diagonal super jump. Now turn right. Jump and then almost instantly tap down. Now jump and hold left.
The rest of the Zebetites will not appear.
You should update the description to the Kraid quick kill to:
Shoot a super missile when Kraid's mouth is half open. Then quickly shoot another 3 super missiles.
One super missile can be substituted for a normal missile
Are videos made of smvs even acceptable on this site, even if they are 100% unassisted, or do they under all circumstances have to be from the real console? I could give/make you some vids too, but if it's the latter, then BlueGlass is probably the only person that will be able to contribute for the moment.
At the moment I am making an advanced how to play super metroid video with every single trick including TAS tricks. If i give you the zmv's for them then will they be hosted?
For LN without Gravity, the vodeo footage can be taken from Red Scarlet's NBMB segment 2 from 1:07 to 1:39
Video footage for Red Brinstar without ice beam can be taken from segment 1 of her NBMB from 18:58 to 19:23
Video fotage for charge beam etank without Gravty suit can be taken from her NBMB segment 1 from 58:20 to 58:30 Description could be: get this e-tank before the Gravity suit by using a quick charge
Video footage for Maridia main street without Gravity can be taken from her NBMB segment 1 from 1:23:10 to 1:24:27
Video footage for the big grapple room in rocky Maridia without grapple or gravity can be taken from her NBMB segment 1 from 1:10:00 to 1:12:30
Also, a page about crouch jumping and downward aiming would be a good idea as well. I'll post some descriptions for those and short charge once I get the other videos ready.
ok it looks like this is actually going to happen.
i can use both smvs and zmvs as long as the version of the emulator is noted so it doesn't desync on me.
as for the descs, please make a file e.g. boss_tricks_kraid_quick_kill.txt with the new desc in it. if i have to copy and paste from this topic i'm sure to miss something. zmvs/smvs should be named the same as the .txt. then email all that to njahnke@gmail.com . it would be a good idea to email everything all at once (again, less chance of me forgetting something). also don't forget discovered by (if applicable) in the .txt. if you're encoding from dvd, as i said before, use sda medium/normal quality h.264 mp4 from anri-chan. settings for super metroid are d4 f1 2d.
BlueGlass could just edit all the new descriptions and videos into the 1st post of this topic
Already about halfway done makilg everything as nate requested. Unfortunately, I've run into a small snag: A DVD got stuck in the DVD drive on my laptop and won't eject, so I can't insert the DVD I just finished recording all the tricks on to encode the videos. So I'll have to figure out a way to fix that before I can finish up everything.
EDIT: Also, as far as assigning credit goes, the only things I know for sure are 2-round Phantoon is Azor and Kejardon, and one of the Maridia rooms is Red Scarlet. Could people help me fill in the blanks?
EDIT2: And now I've encountered yet another problem. Whenever I try to use Anri-chan to trim a video file, virtualdub comes up with an error message.
Avisynth open failure: LoadPugin:unable to load"C:\Program Files\AviSynth2.5\plugins\RemoveGrain_v10pre1.dll" [c:\pprogram files\avisynth2.5\plugins\mvbob.avs,line 250] [c:\documents and settings\(my name)\desktop\(project name)\(project name)_timetemp.avs, line 2]
Just tried uninstalling and reinstalling Anri-chan (and yes, it is the latest version). Same error.
EDIT: Also, as far as assigning credit goes, I know that Spore Spawn's Supers without CF was found by Saturn, but it had already been discovered by one of the Japanese players, only no one outside of Japan knew it. So should the credit go solely to the Japanese person (in which case we'll have to wait for catnap222 to show up and tell us who said person is), or should Saturn also be credited, because he discovered it separately, albeit a couple years later?
sorry for the delay in getting back to you. i'm working on a lot of different things atm and i just got to the point today where i can think about anri-chan again.
do you have a file RemoveGrain_v10pre1.dll in C:\Program Files\AviSynth2.5\plugins\ ?
