WS super vs early charge choice is getting harder and harder...

If you can open the gate to Maridia from the wrong side I'd definitely go for the charge instead of WS supers. I'll put some time into it.

That one has already been attempted many times, but I wish you the best of luck with it.

Otherwise choosing between  WS super and Charge really is hard, that charge beam might be a little too slow to make up for the time gained not detouring in WS. You will definitely lose time with Botwoon and Draygon will be slower too, unless an efficient luck-manipulation is possible. Seeing how useless the Charge beam is, I am starting to think that super is a better choice.

Then please have a look at this discussion to get more information about this gate breaker:
http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=138451#138451

Hero and I both tried very hard to open this gate, and we failed. I still say it's impossible to do in that rooms conditions. But you already showed things that were thought to be impossible, so this could be a interesting attempt nevertheless. Best of luck to you.

EDIT:
The reason the distant Super shot worked on a similary build gate in pink Brinstars E-Tank room was because the block before the gate there was in fact a slope, and therefore the Super had just enough room to pass it without touching at all while still having the needed height to hit the switch on the other side. It won't work that way in this situation though, because instead of the slope there is a full solid block there.

What if you try to shoot the super at near the bottom of both blocks? Like when you shoot your normal beam through something and its about half through the object but it still goes all the way through it.

It needs to be at the same height as the bubble. That height is also where the block is.

Although the only thing spectacular with that room was that I used an underwater CWJ <insert sitcom cheers>

There isn't CWJ underwater, since there's no speed, only momentum. I had this idea too and asked about this @ TASvideos and that's the answer moozooh gave me. Are you talking about the room with those floating creatures to use grapple beam on? Also, 1 round Botwoon = insta respect, congrats Kriole. ;)

Don't whine about the route guys, Kriole's taking Supers I'm taking charge, you'll see the result when we're both done. :) I'm not gonna change my mind, I still could because I haven't been TASing and am at WS but I won't. I have my biggest expects that Kriole's gonna catch that minute I'm leading at WS and in the end his TAS will be faster, but that's something we'll see.

Kriole:
Good luck on opening that gate, I'm sure you're familiar with Hero of the day? He's found the most TAS-timesavers to Super Metroid I think, and he hasn't gotten the gate open, just for measure. Though you've done many other so called impossible things too, I'm just preparing you to not be sad if/when you won't open it. :-D To be honest I tried it pretty hard myself too a month ago, couldn't do it.

It worked fine for me o.O. And I only used it for distance and it proved to save much time.
And yes, that huge room with exploding grapple beam thingies. 1-rounding Botwoon was actually easier than I expected. After manipulating the longest path he swims it's just all about pumping missiles. I even had like 4-5 frames to spare.

Working on my new TAS is going great. Ceres didn't love me, the best I could get was 8:87. Still, 7:73 was my first attempt :D.
All in all, I think I saved like 5 seconds until the Brinstar => Crateria elevator compared to my old run. And that's after 2 minutes ingame time.

I know it can be done, but I don't think CWJ is the right term as it's continuous walljump/speed walljump.. Maybe MWJ? Momentum walljump? :-D

Continuous wall jump is exactly what is is, and therefor should be refered the same.

8:87 is very good, I think that is pretty much as fast as you can be without subpixel optimization, I got 9:02 which is the fastest with the methods known at the time and no delay in the intro (at least I think so).

If you want I could pm you my smv, you might get some ideas from it.

Well you're right, but speed walljump won't work here I think.

It's okay... I got them both :D

It was awesome, loved the ending ;]. Compared the runs, yours was about 15 frames faster from the Brinstar => Crateria elevator. Another thing to be mentioned... our moves were... strangely alike o_O.

I think I'm gonna pause-screen abuse myself to some SMissiles and go and visit Kraid with them. It will look kinda meh, but the segment won't be too long I fear. Or I could skip Kraid and go for Phantoon. Who knows. The decision does not have to be made right away.

Without beating kraid you can't get hi-jump or spazer, or any E-tanks. So you would not gain anything on that.

So all the way from the beginning till that elevator I am ~15 frames faster, means you're doing some really good work. Keep it up.

I was bored so I finally hunted down 100% of the items. No I did not start yet a new game, I just continued from my old runs end.

It was my first time using frame advance to get the snail supers and it was very easy, I got it with my first try. I can´t imagine what might be the problem people have with it? The instructions are so clear and thorough. So, up until now I have just avoided the frame advance for some reason, but now that I have tried it, that is not such a big deal after all. Also I understand a little better what it takes to make a TAS using frame advance. It really, really requires patience. On the other hand I noticed that as a time unit, one frame is not as small as I thought. Anyway, I have some kind of different patience myself, so I will just leave TASing to the professionals  :)

That's quite a leap, without copying input I fear you will not succeed without going completely insane.

True. It's not really worth it spending months for just the ceres station if the rest of the run does not share the same level of optimization. I'd say go for a decent ceres, 48.9X-49.0X, and spend more time on the run itself. And remember TASing is not about reaching insane times and rub those in each others faces. Its about entertainment.

Well I was copying, but it was still hard. I decided to do 49'10 instead.

Heh sorry guys. I got hooked onto the Legend of Zelda OoT uber challenge and haven't been making much progress. I have gotten Draygon to dark red a few times before though.
