Meh... back in my days, SB'ing was different from SW'ing.
You had me fooled. I consider the minimum to still be 22, personnally...

No one cares.

Also did you really have to post in this after there hasn't been one for 6 months just to go "OMG YOU'RE A CHEATER FOR THE COUPLE OF SPOTS THAT USED SWS AND THE ENTIRE REST OF THE RUN AND THOSE INSANELY DIFFICULT TRICKS DON'T COUNT"? Seriously, go away.

Actually, 21 is lower than 22. Weird, isn't it.

(we're allowed to do all these crazy bomb jumps and scan dashes and glitches that clearly weren't intended and all that's fine UNLESS you go out of bounds... why? no reason...)

I like turtles.
But if they become well known,

will they still be secret?

Woah, ok, sorry people, did'nt mean to offend or anything. This is all still pretty awesome gaming.
I know you came a long way, Miles, and have always been pro-SW, I respect that. Since I've always preferred and considered my SB without OOB (DOn''t put my on trial for that, I never said "cheat"), I was just saying I had myself a scare when I came back here after some time and saw something about 21%, that's all.
I'm still watching the friggin run as we speak..

The bulk of the run's still in-bounds, and getting Plasma isn't even possible without SWs, so yeah.

Also either way it's weird to consider 22% the real low% over 21% when 21% is way way way way way more difficult. SWs or not.

Gee, then you shouldn't have posted saying that I "fooled" you and that 21% isn't the real low%.

Well, I don't call nobody cheaters, to each his own. I suppose I was the one to have fooled myself there, just felt like expressing that, not trying to flame.
I know I have a NSJ saved game somewhere myself in which I also tried wall crawling. I suck at it, it's not my thing. I remember I ended up going for the sun tower sesshoumaru jump instead even though it was obsolete. Different type of challenge. Different atmosphere when playing OOB, I dunno...
Anyway, I'm not saying yours is not a valid 21%, just not my ideal kind of one, not one that would have me feeling all hot inside and spend hours going for. ok, grandpa rants over, congrats on the skillz in any case

i've never seen how secret worlds are any different than glitches, techniques, or sequence breaks already used.

Actually, I was being modest. I don't suck at them, I just don't like them.
Entitled to my preferences any? Entitled to innocent debating, any? To me, it feels like breaking the fourth wall. Whereas Samus doing crazy bomb jumps, exploiting a faulty spinner, or the dash functionality of her visor still feels like her being inventive and resourceful with her equipment and surroundings while keeping within the narrative boundaries of her own fictional universe. Taking her OOB is like having her acknowledge the player, the game, the console, your grandpa and your friggin living room, for all i know. I don't say it's cheating, I don't say it's any kind of an easy shortcut, I just say, it does'nt leave room for any credibility within the narrative context of the game, and that makes it less glamourous and attractive. To me. Again, just a matter of personal preference. I really don't see how you can not at least acknowledge the difference between the two, but oh well..
I'm just happy I'm back on the boards talking about a game we all enjoy (Have always been more of a lurker though, guess I should stick to it). Not here for flamewars or anything, just wanna remind you this is the game that brings us all together, there are no sides here, just opinions.

i think your opinion was pretty typical back in 2007 or whatever - i used to not really care about sws either. everyone got over it though.
just gotta say the fact sw's even exist and that weve learned how to navigate in them so well is suuuper pro, oob navigation is some tedious shit

I think there will always be people like myself, yoko99 and others who don't enjoy watching secret worlds being done. For us it kind of "steps out of line" with what's acceptable to watch and enjoy in a game. I don't like bringing this comparison up but if X ray climbing on super was readily feasible on console and practiced on a daily basis there would be little to no chance I'd be interested in that game ever again, and it's not so much with how much it skips, more it's just that exiting of boundaries thing. It's a visual thing though honestly. For us it defies logic and reasoning. Not to say a game and it's glitches doesn't already do this, but watching secret worlds or any out of bounds tricks in any game is like watching god play in some respect.

It is of course just an opinion but this is what people like myself feel about it which Yoko99's post perfectly explained.

why wouldn't you want to watch someone play like god? makes it better that way.

I should have worded it to "is like playing god"

I mean god in the sense that it can do literally whatever the fuck it wants, twist and shape it around to his liking. The walls of a game are the most basic, natural restrictions. When you take these away your left with a game/speed run that lacks substance. Identity of the game is missing somewhat...

i get what they're saying, it's just a matter of personal preference :P I see plenty of glitches I don't like too (recent example: portal 2 crouch flying)... they break the game, sure, but they're kinda lame. the important thing is that I can acknowledge that just because I don't like it, that doesn't mean they aren't perfectly legit. and as far as I can tell, nobody's claiming SWs aren't legit here, so no problem.

Well I didn't mean you forget what game it is (obviously). Basically the game is designed within those walls. That's the identity of the game.

What they just said. Kinda lame. Perfectly legit. 22% has a coolness factor that 21% loses. And I'm just as crazy about NSJ/bomb jumping as the next guy but that's what going OOB does for me. :(
Obviously, that has nothing to do with miles's skill or his devotion in demonstrating the run. Someone has to do it, right? Really did'nt mean to make it a personal thing, bro.

See what all this actually brought me to: I just identified and fixed my dusty Gamecube's year-long shortcut. Gonne be playing Prime these days, finally. ^^
Oh, also, what is this with reviving old threads these days? Is it that bad? Not like I'd noticed it was any kind of old anyway...

Bumping the thread with something constructive is fine. Bumping it to insult the runner by saying that "I don't consider this the real low%" is not.
