I('d) like to watch (some MP3 runs)
I doubt I'll be online tomorrow (Saturday, 6/4), so ok.

A year ago today, 6/3/04, smokey finished his 00:56 100%.  A year ago tomorrow, I finished my 00:55 100% (well, I did get a crappy :55 a year ago today, but irrevelant).

It's hard to believe to me that a year has passed and for console runs, these are still at the top for 100%.  I never would have figured either time was going to last this long.  Game still makes me shiver inside when I see it.

I played through this again last night on the emulator (I'll probably never take my cartridge out of the box ever again; just buy another copy if for some reason I have to play the cart) and with save states, got a 00:59 100%.  Wow.  Whatever I 'had' back then is long gone now.

Sorry if this topic seems self-centered, it's just that there is so much with me personally with the run (like nearly going crazy), as well as what was going on at the same time in my life.  So this run has positive and very negative reactions from me when I think about it.

Why not celebrate both these runs this weekend and watch smokey's 00:56 and my 00:55?  I'm sure the runs and runners will appreciate it.  :o

If smokey's around, his sentiments on his run would be a great addition.

Happy bday (yeah, I have problems).

just some info ... scarlet's 0:55 100% is the single most sold dvd, beyond all doubt. usually, up until about two months ago, if i sold one of another dvd (not scarlet's 0:55), then i sold a 0:55, as well. so you could say that it alone accounts for almost 50% of dvd sales, especially early on. (the reason it's not sold so much proportionally now is that the number of dvds has grown by over 600%.)

indeed, it was the first run i captured for dvd after d.darch's fusion 1% and old castlevania: aos stuff, which had just come in last october when i was experimenting with dvds. after #001 (the s-s 1%) and #002 (the aos runs) came out okay, i said alright, i'm going to do this for real, and it was time to capture old stuff, and scarlet's run came first. there was never any doubt about that.

of the dvds that made up the old "volume 1" set (so #001-#006), only aj's zero mission stuff and scarlet's 0:55 100% remain unbeaten. #001-#006 are the only dvds that haven't yet been redone with my most modern dvd creation methods, and so it will soon be time to recapture scarlet's run yet again.

i believe this will be approximately the eighth time i have captured it. every time new capture methodology comes to light (e.g. the advent of full framerate capture only days after i received the 0:55 100% and captured it for the first time), i capture it again, to make sure that it's always top notch quality, because i consider it one of the most, if not the most important run on the site. it is the first one i mention to people while explaining to them what the site is, etc.

so yeah, just some thoughts from me. looking forward to the day when it's time to hand the tapes over to the first brick and mortar speed running museum, so that they can display them in a bulletproof, climate-controlled, laser-monitored case, so that everyone can come see a piece of history.

We'll all certainly take the time to watch these runs again.  I hardly had the opportunity to play Super Metroid as a kid growing up, due to my lack of exposure to the SNES console in particular (remember no one around me had one, and I only had the Genesis during that time).  I've become interested in classic games again, and the speed runs that people are working so hard on have brought new light to these games.  Your run especially got me deeply interested in the Metroid series again.  I will always appreciate just how classic this generation of games really is, and hopefully not too many people will become oblivious to the older generations as the new generations come to life.

I'm always late posting things here now (I could've even post a couple things on other older topics but I'll just end up bumping them) but whatever that's not the point.

yep.. I remember doing those runs just like yesterday. When mid May started I really wanted them to take the whole summer to make; finished the :36 run in about two days and the :56 run in 4 days or less  :? . I remember waking up very early the day I saw RS's run up on planetquake when my run was supposed to be. I was surprised yea, but didn't feel anger toward her. I thought something like "whatever, good for her", but somehow felt relieved that she beat me, since I finally found the way to how end that fight between us.

so, I guess we're even now or something hah :o . Still, it was good to see someone besides me playing this. I'm really impressed I still play it once a week, but not so seriously like back in the days. Anyway, I'm done ranting now. Happyb it is.
