Ha-do-ken!
Hello fellow Metroid fans! I am currently planning and practicing a 1 Boss w/up+a warping run to submit to speeddemosarchive.com since there is no category for this type of run there yet. I have achieved a time of just over 16 minutes including a highly sub-par zebetite room. With good optimization and a better zebetite room, I believe this time could be lowered to the mid 15's. I collect the same items as are gotten in the current 1 Boss no warping run but do so in a different order. I plan on making an fcm of my route hopefully this weekend and when finished, will post it on youtube to get any feedback I can. I look forward to seeing what everyone thinks, especially here at the foremost authority on the Metroid series!

I forgot to mention that this run is obviously only submittable to speeddemos since twingalaxies wants only ss runs so I won't be competing against the current 17:22 record there. Although I may try my hand at the no up+a warping run after I complete this.

Why am I so amazing?
Wouldn't this also be illegal at SDA? Or did you guys change the rules since I last read them a billion years ago.

If you did, shame on you.

the rules have changed a lot lately. such a run would probably be accepted, although some large-skip glitch runs aren't. you might want to ask on the sda forum if it would be accepted prior to spending time on the run.

btw, none of the serious players in the m2k2sda community care about twin galaxies.

If this is accepted, is a 2-item run ever conceivably acceptable? You have to travel above the screen to get beneath the floor you started from, so that's pretty game-breaking. I asked a long time ago and they said no, and if I brought it up today they might be like "ANOTHER category?"

To be honest i haven't contacted Mike at sda about the acceptability of this run yet. Although if it's not acceptable there this will still be good practice for a no warp run. I have completed an fcm and will convert and post on youtube this afternoon. I use only 3 savestates as of now; once right before kraid to practice getting the e-tank with his different patterns, once before the entrance to tourian to practice the timing of freezing the enemy to gain entrance to tourian, and once before the zebetite room since this was my worst part as of then (which is now greatly improved). I'll post a link to youtube when I finish uploading. I don't really care much if this run isn't acceptable since I love this game so much and would like there to be something with up+a warping reguardless if it's only going to be on youtube.

Are you planning to submit a run off of the NES or Virtual Console? I haven't really seriously asked about the differences for the GBA version, but I assume the one on the Prime disc and VC are just ports and shouldn't be a big problem, but like I said I've never asked.

Thanks arkanian!  I talked to Mike at sda and he said there shouldnt be a problem submitting a run of this type so that's the first step.  I would be submitting this run off the NES of course, although I don't have one or a dvd recorder.  My best friend and Double Dragon 2 master and fellow record holder Sinister1 (at sda) does have these.  Unfortunately he lives in Maryland and I currrently live in Oklahoma, but I'm planning a move back home to Bmore in the next few months.  Until then I'm going to be practicing non-stop on an emulator since my route and item pick-ups make this run VERY difficult. I have been having trouble uploading to youtube for some reason so I'm going to try another site.  I hope to have a link today to showcase my route plan.

Keep in mind NES controllers may feel very different from keyboards or even usb controllers. Glad to hear people are still running Metroid though. :^)

Well jagger, I use an original NES controller with a usb modification for practicing runs so this won't be a problem. I gave up on uploading a vid to youtube or dailymotion cause for some reason my connection kept resetting... So I went ahead and uploaded the fcm to Microstorage. Here's the link:

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/704093486/Metroid.fcm

The re-record count is almost all from practicing Kraid and the Zebetite room, and a few from the entrance to Tourian.

Servin' you realness!!
I miss the old NES controller.  I had a secret technique where I held it upside down and used my fingers on the buttons and Dpad instead of my thumbs which allowed me to totally beat all the other kiddies on my block.  Good times.

(yes off topic, sorry)

Here's an fcm that uses no rerecords. Unfortunately I still need some practice with the zebetite room and die at mother brain but my time at brain was right around 15:15. Kraid is kind of a joke now. I seem to be getting pretty sick at this game cept for the damn Brain fight (I hate those fing rinkas!!). :(  I'll get it down sooner or later.

I use FCE Ultra 0.98.28 to record.  Any feedback is greatly appreciated!
