Er, the DBJ isn't that difficult. :-s

If the final bomb isn't propelling you far enough, you are probably laying it too early, and it goes off when you are in the center of it, instead of in front of it.

I can do DBJ anywhere else but not there and even if I success there it doesn't take me that far. Has to be some kind of physical thing.

I think P.J. said that you have to face away from the last bomb to successfully gain the needed distance.

That is how I do it, I try to press the direction way before the last bomb goes off. Works quite well. It is very hard to get it right consecutively though.

I agree with Cpadolf after some testing and training: That CWJ is about as hard as DBJ.

Lol I think I meant psychic thing.  :-D

I know I have to face right when the second bomb goes off.

Just so we're on the same page here, the sequence is:

-Set bomb one, tap right. (Much easier to start from mid air btw)
-When you hit bomb one, set bomb two, and immediately after hold left. (And keep it held)
-Right before you are about to turn back towards bomb two, set bomb three.
-AFTER* you hit bomb two, release left and hold right. This is kind of weird, since letting go of left and holding right makes you stop moving right and start moving leftward... but it works. After bomb three goes off, you'll start moving right again, and you can unmorph for extra distance if you want.

*If you do it to early, the third bomb'll probably propel you leftward. Too late, and you'll overshoot it. Just make sure you do it after bomb two goes off and before you "reach" bomb three. (What actually happens is you pass it up, and then go back to it.)

Sorry, I'm not very good at explaining things. Hope this helps though.

Wow, no wonder everyone has so much trouble with DBJ. That sounds really complicated. I just set bomb 1, *barely* tap right, touch nothing until most of the way up, lay bomb 2 at the peak of the jump and as I turn around, hold left, turn back to facing right just before bomb 1 explodes, then touch nothing again (if I'm feeling risky, a well-placed tap of right on the final jump will get you a lot of distance on the second explosion).

Heh, sounds easier, but I couldn't get it like that. I can make it about 75% of the time with my way. :P

Couldn't you get 13% if you got the early powerbomb and get the Gravity Suit before the Varia? If you do that the game will act like you have the Varia when you really don't.I tried this on a suitless run a week or 2 ago.The game might raise the percent by 2 but I don't know. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Here's a video on getting the powerbombs before Norfair. Also,I have the VC version, not the SNES version so there might also be a difference.

Mother Brain's Rainbow Ray does 600 damage without the Varia, no matter of the Gravity suit. With it, it does 300 damage. that's why both suits are required. It is possible to get 13%, as Kejardon did it. It's possible to go as low a 7%, but you need extreme glitching (and I'm talking about Pause Screen Abuse (staying alive a 0 health), X-Ray Climb, making a spefic room load so that way you can start the escape secuence without beating Mother Brain, but I digress).

How much damage does the ice shield do to Ridley? I assume it is not a useful amount since nobody has used it against Ridley in low% runs. Not in TAS, not in speedrun.

Also, that gravity jump to Lower Norfair is hard as hell!

Embarrasing Fact: Power suit made by lowest bidder
90 damage a shot. It grabs its damage from a charged ice beam shot. There is no good reason for this, and there is no good reason for you to use the ice beam shield as a damage-dealing weapon.

Here is a test run of 14% ice route. I went to Phantoon first, then Kraid, Draygon and Ridley. 8 segments is less than Smokey had (which was my goal), but the amount could be even less. I chose the save points pretty arbitrarily. Maybe next time those can be planned more thoroughly.

I played on console conditions so no slowdown or save states. I did not go for speed this time, I just wanted to pass through this and see what kind of challenge it is. On the other hand I tried not to have any meaningless delays here. Those few boss fights are hard to do but very boring to watch, that is a shame.

Clear time 1:14
Item collection 14% (well duh)
Recorded on snes9x1.43+v9

Some notes

- Beginning is the same old...
- WS lake CWJ was not a success in the first try so I tried DBJ and it was! Fruit of the training  =)
- Phantoon was easy, those flames give you energy with a pretty good percentage.
- Kraid was bad, but meh...
- Climbing mount doom was interesting as well, I did not want to IBJ all the time so I figured one alternative method
- Refilling is so frustrating without save states, especially before Botwoon and before Draygon
- Botwoon was crazy, ice shield hits, missiles don´t, supers hit mostly, charged ice does not
- Draygon was semi-hard, but nothing compared to SMI, I get to thank that hack a lot in this run
- That Gravity jump to LN required some training, it is surprisingly hard to do right
- That vertical pirate shaft can be done faster, but not after that hard gravity jump. I just wanted to play it safe
- Ridley offered most challenge in this run, changing patterns all the time and doing something unexpected once in a while... I figured a few ways to avoid him, but they are never 100% certain
- MB was the other big challenge. I panicked when I accidentally fired one super missile to the eye door, but luckily I had all 10 so there was one to spare.

I guess that´s it... Maybe some day I will do one that aims for greater speed. Whoever wants to watch this one, enjoy!

Really nice run, your boss fights exceed my expectations.

Loved how you wanted to exit Kraid's Lair with morph ball bombs... someone has played too much SM:I ;].

Here is another Low% run. This time it is a little bit more refined, but still far from good. Complete time 1:05

This time I decided to make things properly and restarted every time a new segment started. It was frustrating to start over with all those delays before the actual gameplay, but maybe it looks a bit more official now.

Same route as my testrun. My next goal could be under an hour, that is well within reach, especially if I use more segments than 7, which was the amount this time around. I noticed that there is no need to save after WS, before Kraid was much smarter because it allowed me to ensure Kraid quick kill and Ice Beam gate hater. I also tried to avoid any unnecessary refilling like before Botwoon. I think he was faster this time despite the lack of refilling.

Few notes:

- I wanted to make the beginning look good so it took several attempts and I think it was alright.
- WS lake CWJ, wooo!! (I decided to give it two tries per attempt, too bad it was the second one here, but meh)
- Things went pretty smoothly over all, even though some segments felt quite long
- Draygon was intense, but I decided beforehand to deal with him on the same segment as Botwoon.
- Norfair lava pool was hard once again, as was the pirate shaft. I had to redo this segment a couple of times because I did not have enough ammo at the end of this trip.
- Ridley is much easier with the wall jumping method, though the morph ball dodging is useful sometimes
- After Ridley was bad, I should have saved there and rush through those tough enemies that take forever to kill with beam, luckily we have the almighty 425%. Also I went to Green Brinstar by mistake, must look funny when I turn around when I realize there is no certain pass there. (did not even bother to try the reverse gate there)
- I did Mother Brain after a long break, so it may look kinda sloppy, but I tried to spice it up the best I could.

I guess that´s it. Once again, whoever wants to watch, enjoy!
