Post preview:i guess we're fucked because it is either him or Retro for Metroid nowadays. the only way to get a new non-Retro game without him would be for nintendo to fire him.

i was going by how much it costed me in hard mode to beat both bosses. also, Ridley didn't have assistance like the Queen.

Post preview:the thing that still makes the husk useless is that, wouldn't it just crumble like the dead troopers and pirates in mp3?

what i think is that the federation saw potential in him as a bio-weapon and cloned him again but this time, they took the necessary measuers to prevent what happened in Other M. it was stated that they didn't see any potential as a bio-weapon in his baby state but now that everything that happened is documented, he's useful.

also, Omega Ridley completely exploded in the seed battle in mp3 and the seeds themselves exploded after the battles and he was completely corrupted anyway so there's no way for him to return to his former state. him coming back in the same game is easy because he just falls down after being defeated in the first battle. i say that the pirates cloned him and samus expected that because he was one of the main commanders of the pirates, so it makes sense they would keep his DNA around. him being cloned by the feds was totally out of left fiend since they didn't even know what he was.

now, if we consider the recent retcon of the prime triology, Ridley's first cloning was in Other M because his body could survive from ZM and get well for Super.

also, the queen is easy to kill compared to ridley so i'd bet, from Samus' POV, ridley is more scary.

Post preview:yeah, games turn up in the used stores always, no matter how good they are or how good they sold.

for example: mp1 was very common on used stores despite being so well reviewed and all.

i'd say used copies are far more rare for games that were far less popular. the kind of games that sell for a load of money in good condition.

also, people buy and sell back the games because that's cheaper than actually renting the game sometimes and you don't have to deal with crappy disks and you get good money back if the game is in great condition.

Quote from MilesSMB:
101% 2:14 SS (unrecorded). It was absolutely terrible too... I forgot the Torvus Lagoon expansion and the first Agon key, which cost a ton of time, and there were a lot of stupid mistakes throughout. Makes me wonder how low I can take this when I start to seriously attempt it.

i'm going to put a bet on sub-2:06 once you get things going as good as in the any%. could be even lower with new tricks for most items.

also, nice to see that you got a capture card samurai. i'm looking forward to some of your runs, especially hard mode stuff.

Post preview:the only Ice-Resistant Metroids died here without even fighting.

i agree that the deleter subplot ended up being unnecesary seeing how it ended. it was interesting at the start and i thought you'd confront the guy later and he'd do a speech or something but then he dies off-screen. i even forgot about it until i was doing the cleanup and checked the status of all the people on board. when i noticed the missing guy is when i remembered the whole stuff with the deleter.

it is remarkable that she snapped out of it and then kicked his ass. from the reaction, you'd think she would just sit there and cry while Ridley eats her.

Post preview:the only room that remains locked is the room where the queen was kept. that room is just metroid eggs cracked since you pass through it after killing the queen.
Quote from Opium:
I admit that I really got confused about the whole plot and much of it didn't really make sense to me. I'm not saying that it was nonsensical, but I;m just retarded. Is theatre mode basically a recap that might help me understand it?

theater mode lets you watch all the cutscenes individually or all in 1 go.

Post preview:the Wii is actually a GC with a few more MHZs and RAM so it isn't far-fetched for games to look similar to GC games.
the game looks middle road. not impressive like top games but nowhere rear the real horrid games for the system. have you played trash like my training coach or carnival games?

Post preview:the guy that gets tossed in the lava can't be James. you see him alive later and then dead.

Post preview:going by who was alive and dead at that point, the guy who was tossed to the lava had to be K.G. and the deleter was James. K.G. appears as "missing" because no one outside the deleter saw him die, so for everyone else, he's still roaming somewhere but he's actually dust within the lava.
Lyle was the first one to die and then the computer guy and then James shows up leading you to the research lab. we know Adam and Anthony weren't because Adam was monitoring Samus all the way up to Ridley's fight and Anthony was carrying that huge plasma rifle and he's also bigger than anyone else.

Post preview:post the speed tricks you've found across the game.

here's mine:

- in Sector 2, when fighting the monsters in the part with the falling icicles, if you throw the monsters in the water using missiles (since they have a big knockback), they die instantly. this can save time if you manage to throw them in the water with your first shots (man, i'm missing prime's room names and scanning the enemies to know their names)
- in the final cutscene with MB and the wasp things, you can end it as soon as you have a clear shot on MB. blast the enemy in front of you with a regular missile and inmediately lock onto MB and it should take only ~2 seconds.

i can't imagine the day we get a Metroid game without Samus what will happen to those guys.
at least i waited until i had done everything to give my final opinion.

Post preview:if they were going to put that fake ceiling to IBJ, might as well have used Fusion's bomb jumps and save all the hassle.

also, never say never. even Wind Waker got some massive SBs eventually so there's a chance for something here. i'm placing my bets on bypassing the seeker door.

Post preview:sub-4 should be easy since my time in hard is near that. now, low-3 will be a bitch because of that limitation. and i thought i was seeing bad when i noticed that...

looks like manual timing will actually need to be used to determine our real best times. hard mode needed it anyway since the game doesn't give you a final time there.
if someone takes the time to time all the cutscenes for us to substract that amount from the total, it would be much easier. when i watched the cutscenes with the play all option in theater mode, i think it took more than 2 hours.

there's no pickups at all in hard. Ridley's fight is practically a minefield where one bad move = death. at least it doesn't feel frustrating to die.

overall i ended up liking the game. it should make it to the upper half of my metroid ranking but my ranking has some unpopular games in high spots already so i'm not too surprised. Fusion being my very first metroid game also has an impact since the series hasn't been all about exploration for me and i can deal with the linear games. finding SBs is also nice and enhances the game but the lack of them doesn't impact the game in a bad way for me.
the D-pad movement was necessary for some stuff like the speed booster since making it run straight with a stick would have been way harder. overall it does fit the game well since it doesn't really need super precise controls and you never need speeds lower than running.
all the first person stuff is kinda crummy because of control limitations and the over the shoulder parts were annoying. the looking for shit parts were the worst of all but mostly because the scanning is crap. if it had prime scanning, it wouldn't be hard at all to find the targets.
cutscenes and story were alright, considering it is coming from a company that is absolutely awful at game stories. imo, they should try to improve somewhere else and put a story when they have real skills in that area.
the actual level design and enemies were good and i liked what was there. some areas are a bit dull and there were few secrets overall but the ones around were satisfying. it was also good to finish 100% before everyone else so i didn't have extra help and it felt so good when i figured out the more elusive pickups.

the engine does need some work but a new Metroid game using this engine on 3DS and leaving behind the stuff that is slow and cumbersome could be a good alternative to the fully-2D games if they don't make those anymore. unlike prime, i'm open for more games with this style. just no more slow parts and put in more alternate and secret passages (ZM is also one of the more well-regarded games in the series).

Post preview:true. it doesn't look as good as top games form the GC/PS2/XB days but it would be unfair to put it in the N64/PSX bracket. have you played a game from that era recently? Other M would be DC quality at the least.

Post preview:that's true, but i'm pretty sure they would have kept selling the trilogy if it had good sales, just on a normal box instead.
and Europe didn't even get that limited edition box so there was not a reason for it to be limited there.
