Relevant text:ohh that sounds big. first time i hear about it. like you said, speaking to the aurora twice in a row before dying is probably what caused it. i wonder if this is possible in other parts of the game.
Relevant text:woooooooooooo!! congrats on finishing the run. it's great that you stuck around for this long-term investment and finished the run to see it pay off greatly. i thought a few times that the run wouldn't be finished when the big wait periods hit but seeing it complete is great news.
also, we should make a donation to replace paraxade's equipment since it was about to kick the bucket
pics look good. i can't wait to play the game. if 1st person is mostly to get hints/stuff, i think it won't be used as much but if there's lots of necessary interaction, then hopefully it works in a way it doesn't distract too much. also, if Nintendo wants to pull a Prime here, Adam won't die and we'll get more games in between Super and Fusion.
Relevant text:this has been a long time in the making. i forgot if the run started in 2007 or 2008. the final time is going to be 1.5 times faster than my best time. looks like i'll need to improve it soon.
Relevant text:Nintendo's policy of announcing release dates a few monmths before the game's release is serious business. well, better to have it sooner than later.

"Metroid™: Other M, the incredible new Metroid game developed for Wii through a collaboration by Nintendo and the world-renowned Team Ninja, launches June 27. The game looks at the classic franchise from a new perspective: While much of the game is reminiscent of 2-D side-scrollers, players can switch the perspective into 3-D at any time as they explore the twisting passages of a derelict space station and delve deep into a cinematic, never-before-told story of bounty hunter Samus Aran's past. This new approach uses a new control scheme in which players use the Wii Remote™ controller held sideways to battle enemies and navigate the expansive, gorgeous environments in classic Metroid fashion, then aim at the screen with the Wii Remote pointer to blast foes in first-person and hunt the world for clues and hidden passages."
this sounds a lot like super paper mario but much better since the endless dialogue from SPM isn't here and the gameplay from 2D Metroid games is quite fast. seems that they stuck between 2D and 3D 3rd person instead of going full 3rd person.
Relevant text:why not put them in a .zip file and upload them to megaupload or a similar site? that's quite convenient and you can give the link only to zoid.
Zelda is doing fine, no need to make any changes that major.
Did you play TP? PH? Spirit Tracks? I rest my case.
I was really measuring the success of the franchise in game sales. Zelda is selling plenty.
ST had a decline in sales from PH. i wouldn't say the series is bulletproof like what most think. the Zelda team should be more careful with how the games are received. PH's not-so-great impressions were one of the factors that caused the decline of ST's sales imo. had it been better received, i bet ST would have sold about the same. there's also the hype factor which was almost nonexistant since i bet very few people wanted a sequel to PH. TP wasn't that well received overall but they're letting the hype build itself by taking so long to make its sucessor. not even the gap between TWW and TP was that big.
Relevant text:considering all of the above, i bet there would be a massive backlash if the cutscenes were unskippable like in Fusion. the last thing Nintendo wants when experimenting with a new direction in a series is easy backlash.
Relevant text:for real? that seems a bit too fast considering BSJs are impossible in the trilogy... care to elaborate on the route and strats you used?
Relevant text:i don't think anyone should have problems with the cutscenes as long as they are skippable. the biggest beef with Fusion is that the dialogue couldn't be skipped at all. even Zelda games have skippable cutscenes now so i would bet we're safe on that front. also, linearity could be actually good if they pull it off correctly.
Relevant text:very nice to see the run getting serious progress. if the next segments come up consistently, i might wait until all of them are up to watch them all in 1 go.
also, it looks like the disc won't survive the speedrun at this point lol.
Relevant text:i guess there needs to be one top player involved in TAS making to get the more common tricks working fast. some of the best TASes come up that way.
Relevant text:i grabbed my mp1 GC copy and checked the scan and the "orange phazon" is never called like that in the scan. it is addressed as a "mutagenic ore 86% more radioactive than phazon" but that doesn't mean it is actual phazon. people just call it "orange phazon" to give it a name since it is officially unnamed in the game.
Relevant text:that's good. my concern is that this game might not behave normally since it is a limited edition item, unlike most games that sell super cheap used. if there's used and cheap copies for a long time, then that's great.
I'm surprised that there any of us that didn't buy it on the release date. The release of any official metroid game is something that I lose sleep over and even take time off work for, even if it's just for a port like this one.
i already have all of the games and don't even like two of them. i'd like the trilogy set eventually to mess around with the new prime controls, but it's not that important to me. i'll get a copy when they're twenty bucks used on amazon. i doubt they're ever going to be hard to find.
i wouldn't count of that since there weren't many copies made in the first place and once they run out, prices will go up a lot over time. so, the sooner you get a cheap copy, the better.
also, it is a lot of Nintendo's fault that people here didn't buy the trilogy. who wants a gimped game in a speedrunning forum? also, there was no new content to entice people who had all the games already. had they added new art galleries, alternate item placements (like Zelda Master Quest) or even some extra modes (boss rush, for example), a lot more people would have got the trilogy.
