Relevant text:Metroid 2 needs a remake because there is no Virtual Handheld, and thus no distribution of the game from Nintendo. Nothing of the modern generation can play Metroid 2, and like hell Nintendo'd allow themselves to just slap it down as-is on DSiWare. Though, if a Virtual Handheld does come to, a true-blue (and orange, and red, and yellow...) Metroid II DX would be the Zebes' knees.

Relevant text:OOOOH.  Well, that's a load off. I was thinkin', hey, if Fusion's been lambasted for being "on-rails"...

Would be interested, though, to see how an on-rails Metroid would work, but definitely not as a final product.

Relevant text:Hel-lo, Power Grip.  She also seems to run more like her Zero Mission self, too (and Fusion self, I suppose, but with such a different suit, I'mma let it sit this comparison out).

Relevant text:I'unno, I think that "METROID Other M" looks kinda classy, but this is from a guy that like the simplicity of "FINAL FANTASY" logos, where it's just a type face and then a symbolic piece of art to coincide, and just the typeface when a title.  Y;know, aside from the CGI collages that muck up the designs.  Of the PS1 FFs, I'd say FFVIII might've been the least "photo shot"/"photoshop" of them all, with a symmetrical Edea above to logo, the Rinoa below the logo flanked by Squall and Seifer looking out in either direction.

To tie this back to Other M, the "Other" is of a smaller size than the "M", and with it off to the side, the whole spiel balances pretty well. ...or something like that, maybe.  I think I just BS'd some of that last stuff/rationalizations.

The voice, though, yeah, sounds worse than Xenosaga EPISODE II's KOS-MOS.

...what is it with Japan and ALL-CAPS (not to mention scREwy capS)?

Relevant text:lulz, junk.  It's always the middling secrets that are known least.  Everyone knows of the horrors of the CD-i games, but only when the AVGN covered Little Red Hood was that game prolly known around (I ran across it via Encyclopedia Obscura).  For Fusion, the secret sequence break is a secret to everybody, but a little GaemCube cameo doesn't seem to heed much mind.

Quote from Opium:
Whether your path is blocked by a super missile or PB door, or whether it's blocked by adam, I don't see a huge difference.

As expressed otherwise, it's picking around, finding the obstacle, throwing yourself at it, picking around elsewhere to find something to use, throw that against it, and repeat until you get past (or find another way around).  In Fusion, you're simply told "No." with a veritable God-door that you know you can't open. No troubleshooting. No workarounds. You simply move on to the objective given you.  While this works from Samus's "bounty hunter" shtick, it feels, yeah, "funneled", like you're trudging a path with some shocks (SA-X) thrown in.

...Does that make Fusion an on-rails platformer?

DISCLAIMER: Has not actually finished Fusion.

I don't think that MP would be female, as she would have to be fertilized to produce young, and you don't see any male Metroid Primes around.  Uless MP did it with one of the little ones..... aiwebs_007

Sir, may I direct you to the deep sea angler fish?
EDIT: "nagler" fish...

buy wario land: shake it. can't stress that enough.

Yeah, saw some at Best Buy, I wanna say for $20, maybe $30. However, that'll prolly be easier to come by used then the Trilogy. Still can't use either. Still need job.

jooooob...

Relevant text:Fusion could benefit from a brightness reduction (sweeping or selective) what with the modern things it'd be played on all being lit.  C'mon, Virtual Handheld, make it happen (along with Japanese Fusion extras and the missile block fix for ZM)!

Relevant text:Ah, on metal cases, I saw Final Fantasy XII Collector's (or whatever its moniker) for twenty bucks, so bought it, even though my sis has a copy of the regular (pre-Greatest-Hits, though I doubt anything was changed, unlike Prime's marvels).  Sure, I prolly reduced the value of the discs by marking them with my insignia, but I don't intend to sell most any of my games, and what was marked on is prolly just background coloring, with the black Sharpie not really standing out and thoroughly ruining effects.

As for Prime Trilogy, I still don't have a Wii, and I still haven't gone back to my Prime run in months, so it's effectually not a big deal, but, as mocked by the Escapist News Network, I loves mah swag, and I like Metroid's style and 'verse, so...

Relevant text:Last thing I listened to was the .mp3 for "The Very Best" from There Will Be Brawl.  You can nab it from their website.

EDIT:  I guess "Yatta! Yatta!" (or "Green Leaves", whatever), though it also made me thing of an ABBA song (can't remember which now, thanks to the Yatta! connection).  Good song, though; where could I get it?

Relevant text:Mind, though the game is set between Super and Fusion (making it "Metroid 3.5"), the events it covers will likely extend to before the first game(s).

Relevant text:What, you'd rather the fro be on a pale dood, and thus look completely wrong based on our hair-to-complection sensibilities?  It's a muthafuckin' chicobo, muthafuckas, in his hair.  That's friggin' awesome.  Plus, he wear green.  Only way they could eff him up for me by design is if he sounds like Chris Rock/Tucker (I can never remember who's who, even worse than my past trouble with Bruce Willis and Mel Gibson; whichever has that impossibly high, impossibly energized voice that burrows through my sanity with giant needles).

Relevant text:*sigh*  1) Some people would prefer not to emulate, 2) Some people don't have GB/C/As, nor would bother getting one for one game, 3) M2 doesn't have any exposure aside from people looking into what all's in the Metroid series, and 4) Halo's playable on Xbox 360s, whereas M2's no playable on DSs, the current version of its kind (though Nintendo said the DS is separate from the GB line, it's effectively the next iterations).

Like if you could absorb Bulimia from the hornoads, and Super Stretch from the stretchies? I guess there could have been a couple useful abilities, but there are just too many enemies to get a skill from each of them IMO. The seahorses that have that orb that spirals around them looks useful though.

Oh jeebus, it's the "of Sorrow" games!

Relevant text:Oh geez, eyes = blown.  The text makes sense, but it also feels less "whole". The blue/red/green had regular text IIRC, but I like the dark background.  What I really miss is the sectioned feel of the old frontpage.  Never were my eyes dragged somewhere I didn't care to look at (and thus compulsively bookmark "for later"), and the little Samus icons let me know if there was something happening on the boards I cared about.  This frontpage... I'm not sure if I can use it so simply.  Eh, I'll find out soon enough.  (Wonder if board links are collapsible...)

Oh, and for the miikii look, the tru-blue font color on your two's (nate & ark) screennames are a bit bright, and end up flushed, a bit unreadable on the dark grey.

Note:  always assume I have no idea what I'm typing about, and that I'm apt to ramble and assume/guess at what my own opinion might be.

*messes around a bit*  Ah, there is collapsation!  I ran into the "the link text is darker" thing on a short sentence, so I'll keep that in mind.  Are new posts indicated by the icon only, or does the topic title also change color?

Aaand, the post above this mostly wasn't there when it was posted, just the username and something under it.  Does that show the post if it's clicked?  If so, that's a nice feature, so as not to interrupt a response because the text suddenly jumped.

Quote from Quietus:

It sounds like you're stuck quite early, at the point where you don't really get a hint as to what to do.  If you're stuck where I think you are, go to the Librarian, and buy the 'Jewel of Open'.  It'll open up those blue-edged doors you've probably seen, and you should be able to continue.

Yeah, I did end up in the library (or something with a similar color palette to what I remember from speedruns), but I went right, towards the outer wall.  BTW:  that doppelganger is a springy little shit, the knife-chucker.

Quote from infinitysend:

and the spritework (oh GOD, the spritework) is still near-unmatched in today's games.

Oh, on that note, nitpicks: the axe armors' hands look too solid-color, kinda like...let's say action figure plastic, the man-eaters' bulbs can look kinda "on" the background than "in" the floor like they seem to be being, and Alucard's turning animation... it eerks me, because he moves backwards/sideways for a second and his cape-thing looks like it has the hardest time moving around him and through air.  I'm used to the insta-turning of Juste, Soma, and friends (and Samus in ZM, at least), that Alucard feels like he's moving slowly, if not in slo-mo (which evokes thoughts of another animation-to-motion desyncer, Sora from the first KH).

Relevant text:Could smaller Metroids get in and out of the sealed area?  Perhaps they nabbed some loot, like little worker ants for their queen?

Quote from UchihaSasuke:

mp could have just climbed out and fight you anywhere in tallon IV.

That'd be p coo'.

Also, maybe it was the "according to her memories" excuse that came to mind for the ZM-SM discrepancies (similarly to the LAST ORDER -FFVII- differences being attributed to Tseng's assumptuous account).

Relevant text:Been playin' SotN on the PSP (via DXC) and... damn, I don't know just where I'm expected to go, and beasties hit like a truck (partly the damage, partly the unGodly throwback Alucard has; worse then some Belmonts!).  That, and the PSP's D-pad doesn't work well with direction change while crouching.  That, and it feels cramped in there, which may be a combo of the PSP screen and the graphics' size, since it was meant for a TV.

Haven't played Super Metroid, though I get the feeling its controls may take getting used to.  Gotta have an edge on only one attack button; using shields in SotN 'confuses' me (though, in thinking, OoE has dual-handing, too, though I wonder if I ever used shield glyphs (are there any?)).

So... I'd prolly err on the handheld games over these two.  I can get through ZM, HoD, and AoS easier than what I've experienced and/or expect of their televisual predecessors.  FTR, I've met Maria and beat one boss (set) in SotN; I'm...not very far.

Relevant text:I want a remake because none of the current-gen Nintendo systems can play it.  DS and DS Lite only do GBA (so M1 is playable), and the Wii can't use the Game Boy Player (natively, at least).  So, the only options are a port or a remake.  Since M1 got its, M2 can have one as well.  And, just like M1, the original can be bundled into the package.

EDIT:  I would appreciate, though, if the original-as-an-unlockable had color options, specifically greyscale, GB screen, and colorized/DX.  And expanded color palette option would also be nice.

Relevant text:That doesn't rationalize it, since the prologue is a flashback to an area that doesn't quite look like that at any time while Samus was there in ZM.  Only way I could figure is if the SM shots are a third-person view of the areas (something or two else were in my mind, but I forgetzded; mightn't've worked, anyway).

Relevant text:Besides, perhaps the bodies didn't keep very well before being put to use (and especially after being put to use; if they weren't mashed up before Samus pew-pew'd them, they definitely were after).

On-Topic:  Super Metroid's prologue environments and Zero Mission's equivalents.  There's a bit of a consistency hole there, assuming ZM is a replacement for M1.
