Post preview:I think X4 is great, but level design is kinda... narrow. I mean, literally, it pisses me off how the ceiling is so low in most areas that you can hit your head with a single jump. The train is a good example.
I'm still playing RE5, started a Veteran run from scratch (well, all my stuff are in the box, but I'm forcing myself to only use weapons and items I find inside levels).
I need the money and I need the money in a total non-tedious way. Six weapons left to upgrade, other stuff to buy. If I can't rack up enough by the end of this run, I'll do the easy-Treasure-level-revisit-repeat thing.
At 3-2 now. My friend joined me at 2-2 and saved me like 50 times. Plagas hate me.
Post preview:Having fun with Mercenaries Reunion. No pressure equals no boundaries.
By the way, peoples, now that I can take my PS3 to the Interweb at a reasonable speed, anyone wanna play Resident Evil 5 or Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 one of these days? My PSN screen is Ren_Dood.
EDIT: I would suggest Street Fighter IV, which is my other multiplayer PS3 game, but unless you want an erratic punching bag, you're better off with the training dummy... I also own BioShock 2 but haven't played it yet.
Post preview:Played as Joker in Arkham, pretty cool.
Then I downloaded and played all of RE5's DLC. Impressions...
Lost in Nightmares
I don't know how big it is, but felt as long as two or three parts of a Chapter in RE5, anyway. I'm cool with that. Finished in 1:19. (Nice touch with the REmake save room music on the ranking screen. Oh, and the grabbers make the death sound of Zombies in REmake and Zero when they die... are they Zombies, I wonder?)
First part was a little dull, nothing quite happens until we use the Crank. Reference after reference, and that's okay, but I was hoping they would be more creative about it and not just throw familiar stuff there. The crank line was sweet, at least, and they got Jill picking locks. (By the way, is Jill picking an invisible lock on that one extra figure? Haha!)
Gearless bit with the traps was my favorite part. Total SH2 moment. Heart was racing and I didn't realize how big the place was until I clicked R2. I died after the Haymaker, that was dumb. =Þ
The mini-boss is fun to fight. Wesker, however, I don't get. Is that fight timed? I just kept running and occasionally dodging his attacks because I could never shoot him.
Oh, and I like the score emblems. Does that add up to my money or anything?
B rank total, all S except C for Damage and Clear Time, understandable. I played on Veteran. Will play as Jill next time, not on Pro, thanks... unless I can convince my friend to download this mode.
Desperate Escape
Another completely new area, big points for Capcom. Kinda generic, and really quite Mercenaries-like, and also very annoying. The part with the rockets and rocks and the Executioner was insane. I was never sure what I had to do, I was so tired of that war zone. And the countdown, Jesus...
Total chaos. I was caught by surprise. Maybe I'll like it better next time, since I'll know what to do at least.
First Jill-Josh dialogue was RIDICULOUS, haha. I loved it. And the cutscene at the end was very good.
I couldn't find a Shotgun or Rifle, but there was ammo for them everywhere. Any ideas?
C rank, 1:30.
Mercenaries Reunion
I don't care much about Mercenaries, though I understand the potential for competition and it can be fun to play casually. I still think most characters should be much more powerful than they are, though, exceptions being Midnight Wesker and such. So, I only really wanted to see how the new characters play.
- Barry: Oh, man. Dude is brutal. Headbutt, Handcannon freaking Bash. - Rebecca: Haha, she's so lame. Her character, not her arsenal or moves. Flame Spray is hilarious. - Josh: Easy melee OHKOs and Rocket Launcher for mini-bosses. I kinda wish his head melee was named Hammer Time. - Excella: Slap! Sexy.
Okay, that was a good six straight hours of RE5. That's enough for now.
Post preview:Thanks, man. I did it following some guy's strategy back when I asked for help. It was basically what you said.
100% challenges done, all Freeflow and Predator.
Invisible Predator (Extreme) was a pain in the ass. Hated pulling three guys with the Batclaw. All the others were a lot of fun. Like I said, I learned many moves from playing these challenges (several context-sensitive commands) and many cool tricks that I'm definitely gonna use, like taking down three goons with one Batarang.
I'll save Hard mode and tedious Platinum crap for next time. As far as the game's content is concerned, I've done everything.
Post preview:Dude, is there a trick to the one with the three walls + three goons at once? Seems impossible to lure them, and their patrol route is sloooow...
Post preview:That's good to hear! And thanks for all the help on Shock and Awe, that was valuable.
I LOVED the Silent Predator challenge with the glass ceiling. You know, I'm discovering a ton of new moves with these challenges. I never knew you could punch a glass ceiling and take down an enemy, or kill an enemy instantly from a corner, or rise from the floor and take down, or stun enemies with the explosive gel. So much thought into the combat.
Shock and Awe (Extreme), you are mine. HAH! 31K. Oh, man. The worst part? I got it on my third try, after trying the first Shock and Awe like fifty times until I got it right. This challenge is too tough, but the combat is so much fun, I just kept going.
Okay, now I feel that I can tackle the rest of the challenges. Any other as difficult as this one?
It really was damn hard, one of those situations where you'd beg for two or three extra seconds. I also beat the "easier" Shock and Awe. Just to be clear, I don't have to beat this thing on the highest rank for 100%, right? Just beating it is enough... RIGHT? :\
But holy Jesus, is the combat in this game awesome. Simple as it is, it's just so much fun to press the right button with just the right timing and watch Batman destroy everything. It really feels like you're the leader of an orchestra.
Post preview:Thanks for the tips, tomatobob. Shock and Awe (Extreme) is insane. I got to Round 4, there were like 7 enemies left when the timer zeroed...
The game is much smaller and shorter than I had anticipated, which is probably a good thing. It was funny when I opened the map a few minutes ago and kept looking for "the other map" for some reason.
For me, the best part about this game still is that you are the goddamn Batman. I was always more excited about sneaking and gliding to my destination than what would be waiting for me, though there isn't really anything wrong with the game as a whole, it's just that the Dark Knight factor is THAT good.
Final battle was dumb. It wasn't awful, just... random. It's like they got it from a game design manual. "Must make villain inexplicably huge." And you pretty much don't fight him...
I will definitely replay this, loved it. Don't care about Platinum because the tasks are usually tedious, but the Riddler challenges sound like fun. I got about 50% of 'em.
Post preview:Oh man, Joker hallucination, great stuff. Eternal Darkness moment.
By the way, I love how all the rules are bent at some point, and they come up with revamped versions of tasks as you progress, and it's so smooth. Like how the gargoyles explode later on, and even the little frequency puzzles get more complex.
Post preview:The Riddler puzzle with the question mark that "appears out of thin air" was genius, the one you have to scan at a certain angle to reveal the dot.
I love using the Cryptographic Sequencer.
And the name they gave to the electrified floor in the prison: "patient pacification system", haha.
I am personally a HUGE fan of the original, and considering they promised bigger and more varied environments for the sequel, I can only wait patiently for more awesomeness.
I started Batman: Arkham Asylum. It is pretty awesome. Like all HD games ever, I'm having some trouble reading text, so maybe I should just get a decent TV...
