Post preview:And this gentlemen cements my belief that the Metroid series has most definitely peaked (after MP1) and has been in a terminal decline since :( It's the reason I stopped SCU and started working on other games instead. I've been sitting on a PAL version of this for almost a week and I have no inclination to play it. I'd rather get back to writing my guides for other - better - games.

Post preview:Nice work on the music video. :)

I've uploaded the promo video to the video game magazine YouTube page I run ( www.youtube.com/user/GamesMasterMag ), with credit back to yourself Sparky and the M2k2 community. :)

Looking forward to watching the run in IQ!

A recap of the latest developments would be nice! :)

Post preview:There's a few interesting route choices throughout this whole run Sparky, and it's made it feel like a very fresh run, which is always extra kick ass to see. :) Looking forward to your final time.

Post preview:Beautiful is the only word I can use to describe your run Sparky. If you finish this run - regardless of the end time - I will genuinely paypal you some money in appreciation (especially for that jaw-dropping wallcrawling scene on IBBF aiwebs_016aiwebs_016 wub

Beautiful work Sparky, beautiful. Keep it up and I'll get you some - well deserved - magazine publicity for this. Very Happy

I remember a time when using secret worlds for anything wasn't even considered. Now they're all that's left.

It was around the same time you slated them for being useless I believe... Wink

Post preview:Interesting observation I've just made: If you view a topic (may be because I created it on the support board), if I'm not logged in the thread shows as 0 views and 0 replies before you enter it. The topic I created there is the prime example and ONLY when I logged in did the main board show that this thread had a reply! Cookies issue again?

Taiga keeps telling me I have a message (says messages [1]) but when I go through my PMs (lul) I don't have any un-read.

I do have like 3 pages of PMs though, is it still not possible to delete them?

Same here. Says 1 PM unread constantly when I've read them all!

Post preview:2 things: might just be me, but the new messages counter still displayed zerowhen I had a new pm. I noticed this from my iPod touch (that I'm posting from now). So the cache was clean. 2nd problem (and for me personally it's a big one), the new post button when viewing the forum on an iPhone or iPod touch DOES NOT follow the forum as you scroll meaning not only does it appear under the 1st post and stay thre, but the text box (like right now for example) obstructs the first two posts. This -for me - is a major issue as ALL of my clients are iPhone/iPod touch customers. Oh and just spotted iPhone/iPod touch issue 3: if I try and use the exclimation mark icon it will simply push me out of my text box to the top of the forum again. :(

Thought u all might appreciate the feedback.

iPhone/iPod touch issue 5789: once a post is made it doesn't auto add itself. Instead, you have to re-enter the topic to view it.

Oh and one extra bit of feedback before I forget: the drill-down for the boards to topic at the top is going form right to left. Any chance of being able to have it going from left to right as for westerners using forums it's infinitely more natural to read.

Hey there!

Been lurking for a while, but thought I'd register to contribute something. I'm working on a table that contains all the differences between the individual region and console releases of MP. UchihaSasuke might have already seen it over at GAF, but I figured this board would be a better place for it.

http://home.arcor.de/ar2615305150/ver_diff/metroidprime.html

It's still a heavy WIP, but it'll be expanded over the time. Help regarding the question marks is of course greatly appreciated.

Except you're blalantly missing the Korean Version off that table.. tut tu!  Razz

I thought the JAP/EU versions were 99% the same?

99% certainly isn't the same though, is it? (Points to Geo Core ;) ).

Post preview:Hey all,

I was wondering, what with all the shennanigans with the alterations between the Japanese and US/UK versions of MP1 in Trilogy, how many versions of MP1 actually exists?

Here's my reckoning, but please feel free to add if I've missed any...

NTSC Retail Demo
PAL Retail Demo
NTSC - First Release (0-00)
NTSC - Subtle Changes Edition (0-01)
NTSC Players Choice - Butchered Edition (0-02)
Korean - Crazy Ass Glitches Edition (0-30)
PAL - Europeans Didn't get a Choice Edition (0-00)
Japanese - More Voices Edition (0-00 too?)
Japanese Wii Remake - Gimped Dash-Jump Edition
US/UK Trilogy Edition - Retro's Two-Fingered Salute to the Sequence Breakers Edition

I make 10 versions with differences between them all. I've no idea if a Japanese retail demo is available anywhere, so I can't be sure on that one. Can anyone think of anymore that actually have any unique version differences in them?

Did a VMR without Space Jump, was a lot easier than I thought. I bet someone fairly new at this game could accomplish this with some instruction.

aiwebs_016 WTF!?

Nice video, but what's really wierd is that they made what was - essentially - one of the toughest SB's to do (and it's a pretty major one too btw) into what appears to be one of the easiest now!  laugh new laugh new

Oh, so it is slower to go through furnace access. Okay just didn't make any sense before.

Nice job with your IBBF in the GC and wii versions.

Yeah, I doubt anyone else has done early space jump. I actually am stuck right before early space jump in my file. I have been able to do it within a half an hour each time I try to get it but last time I tried, I tried for like an hour and a half and couldn't succeed.

Lol, VMR in wii version. That's really, really funny. There is no way that a VMR in the wii version will ever be possible.

Of course VMR would be possible, you can grab the 5th e-tank from Training Chamber with some funky ass wallcrawlling from Main Plaza!  Wink

btw, i feel i somehow screwed up sequence breaking for everyone since i made all those vids and posted all those impressions with possible SBs and someone at retro might have used the data to add those weird fixes. sorry guys.

I doubt you're findings in the Japanese version prompted the changes, as they had playtested this ages before release. The SB's they've fixed were documented from just a few weeks/months into the games GC life, so they've had a TON of time to really work on fixing them. At least the Gathering Hall (SW17) still works, so IBBF is still possible, making Ice w/o Spider viable. Shame about them changing the geometry in the GTH though, that SB was mine!  Sad

I'm very sorry to tell you guys that im not going to do any more speedruns for this game, I'm not going to do a new segmented run. I improved my 22% run to 1:26 and Metroid Prime is out of my system now, this should be on sda in the future. In the meanwhile enjoy my very last surprise :)

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TTF1B5RF

The file is 47 mb but I hope you download it, its my best work so far ;)

Thanks for the wonderfull time I had (and still having) on metroid2002 and sda, guys!

My respect to you Stefan, your 22% run was beautiful when I verified it (regardless of the last boss fights), but popping out a new PAL SS WR like that is quite cheeky ;)

I have no doubts it'll look the business and if the music video is anything to go by, it'll be a really silly time (I'm guessing around 1:12).

Looking forward to viewing your final piece of work. It's a shame though you don't want to bow out with a 0:59 run on NTSC... ;)

But thanks for everything you've done. *big thumbs up*

Post preview:Hey all,

I found the Symphony of Samus 2CD set on an old HD I had, so I decided to wrap it ALL together (along with the custom-made flash player and the full-res cover art) and make it available for download.

It's a hefty 1.23gigs in size, but feel free to download it for your listening pleasure. :D

im going to have to test the early powerbomb segment first, also having an extra tank gives me the option to boost through more lava.

This is how im planning my ibbf route. In furnace I should land on a standable legde instead of falling down what happend here: If anyone has improvements, let me know

Hi Stefan,

I only just noticed your PM. I couldn't find any IBBF videos in my old SCU archive on my spare HD, sorry :(

But here's some feedback for you:

1). Nice speed getting to Energy Core, but you could easily save some time there by using the standable spots right behind the door leading to the roof. Tbh, there's probably better solid spots going on the right hand side anyways, but that could def' be done 5 - 10 secs faster.

2). I don't have a massive experience (that I can remember) of doing 2x Ice Doors, but I believe Craztad is right about using a trigger zone on the left in Furnace when reaching the doors. I'd also take a close look for the best triggers there as obviously waiting to float is a massive time-killer.

If you perfected that route and the ghost fight trigger (along with the HOTE TBJ) then I reckon a low mid-3min time to grab the Ice Beam is well within reach  Very Happy

quick Q: Any support for GameCube memory cards (for save transfers or early unlocks)?

No dice. It uses the Wii's own save system, not the GC I'm afraid. I can get the game to load up to just past the menu screens... (and then it resets my Wii :( )

heh i really suck at wallcrawling :p. i can't even do IBBF in the original version but who knows, i might try after i beat the game.

btw, i just got ice beam. it can be gotten directly after wave like before but now there's a slowdown. you can't jump off the stone toad anymore. jumping is completely disabled when stepped on it.

So you can get it without spider then? Strange... How'd you get up teh track in Furnace? TBJ? Ghetto?
